Promoting My Work

Hey everyone. I'm working on a new blog project and have tried to make people aware of it through some forums. Both forums (including this one) locked my thread because they said it was advertising. So I tried simply posting the work I was doing and letting people know how to get to my site and I still got a bunch of negative criticism. Could someone please give me suggestions on where online I could promote my work? I doubt many people will simply stumble onto it. I'd really appreciate any help you could give, thanks ^_^.

It's tough because everyone hates sitewhoring. What many people here seem to do is they have a link to their blog in their sig. So if you think you have interesting or fun stuff to discuss, discuss it in D&D, or the Writer's Block, or in G&T, or just participate in existing threads. Repost bits from your blog if you want (but do this sparingly or you'll be flamed for borderline sitewhoring). If people think you and your opinions are interesting, they'll eventually click that link.

Is it a personal or business-based blog?

Negative criticism on your work, or on your advertising method?

As people have said, stick the link in your sig, and chat to people. Its non invasive, and you'd be surprised how many bored and curious people there are.

I got a PM from someone I'd never talked to on the forums once, telling me how great I was. Ahhh that was a good day. :D

I would call the blog professional since it is a project, but I don't currently get any kind of compensation for it. And people where criticizing my advertising not my writing.

Social networking requires one to employ sociable techniques. Nobody likes having something forceably shoved in their face. Put it in your signature and engage others in conversation. If they like you, they may be interested in your work. Post -good- comments on other people's blogs - not spam, but constructive comments that add to the article or discussion they are having and you can include a link to your blog in the appropriate field which will link back through your name when you post the comment. The idea is to build a network of peers who respect you, not a lynch mob who want to see you swing.

I think we did both really. Your writing is brutal, unedited, hardly even spellchecked for fuck's sakes. Your original content (posted) consisted of nothing more than 'thar will be some content here! promises!' but did not actually say or do anything of note or value.

You have made three posts, created an account for the sole purpose of flinging this site around, and most importantly and damningly you have brought nothing to the table. You want traffic? Fucking contribute. Here, elsewhere.

Don't just tell me you have something interesting to say, fucking say it. I am bored, ready to click, and all I ask is that you give me one good reason to check your shit out. So far- nuthin.

I am at one with you, random sitewhore sixthousandeight, wanting your ten seconds of fame. But before I personally give you those ten seconds, you had better give me a sign that you can goddamn deliver.

Oh yeah, content would be a pretty important requirement for attracting visitors.

I'd say the lynch mob is pretty entertaining in this case.
