On my PC, I can download a program called vanBasco MIDI player, double click a midi, and instantly have it start playing. If I have my keyboard plugged into the comp, it will play through the keyboard.
I can't imagine that this is so amazing that my Mac can't handle the job as well. But try as I might, the mac barely seems to know what to do with MIDI files. Quicktime won't touch them, and any software MIDI players I've found are bogged down and play all kinds of crappy.
Is there anything out there that can help with this? Some nice Mac MIDI player that will pipe the sound right to the keyboard?
I'm pretty sure GarageBand can do it (though you'll have to select the output device in the preferences), but it's a bit overkill for when you just want to quickly open a couple of midi files. I'm not sure if there's a more suitable app out there or not, sorry.
Um, for the same reason -- you downloaded a specific app on Windows to do this, and you don't have said app installed on your Mac.
First, open up Audio MIDI Setup in your Utilities folder, and make sure it's recognizing your midi keyboard. That's the first step. There's numerous free apps and shareware apps that will do essentially what you want -- try looking on this page:

Nevermind, I thought you meant the computer peripheral, not the musical instrument.

The app called Mighty MIDI appears to do just what you want -- "Can direct MIDI output to Quicktime or to any installed MIDI interfaces."
