The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
In nine days I will leave South Africa, the country in which I have lived for the past three and a half years, for good (or until I'm rich enough to return at my leisure, at any rate).
I will never see most of my friends again.
I will never play with Jupiter, my beloved Siberian Husky, again.
I will never live in this awesome house again.
This is the fifth time I am moving to a different country and even though I'm as used to it as humanly possible I can't help but feel a little sad and wistful. What similar experiences/feelings have you guys got to share? Does asking people to share feelings subject me to mockery in this forum? I don't know, I'm new
I lived in about eight different places, before I left for college, all in the same city of 30k or so. It was kind of odd, but probably not as jarring as moving country to country!
I feel you pain. I am in the military and have not had the same residence for longer than 3 years and end up overseas every other year. Moving no matter how many times you do it does not really ever get easier especially saying goodbye to friends and loved ones. Just make sure you do not loose touch with them.
To clarify, I'm not on the run from the mob or anything.
And my sadness is somewhat offset by my excitement - I'm starting school at my dream university soon. Woo-hoo. Still, moving's much easier now than it was ten years ago, before MSN and Facebook existed.
After moving from the dorms in my college town, I lived in about four different apartments throughout the city.
Finally I moved to where I am now, a suburb of Seattle, for work and love. Now I'm looking to move again, to a more interesting area of the city for a single dude.
It's odd, on the one hand I can't imagine what it would be like to live in one place all your life.
On the other hand, my mother moved out of the house I lived in as a small child, and now she lives there again and has made it a pretty great place to live, out in the countryside. Look forward to visiting it again.
When I was in tech school, I moved eight times. Six of those were within the same building and five of those were on the same floor. Within that building, I moved everywhere from two doors down the hall to two floors down. It was bullshit.

The first time I moved I ended up in Texas. On my second try, I moved to Oklahoma. This has led me to believe that moving can only bring about misery and humidity.
man... good move! hell i would love to leave south africa, i mean with all the xenophobia going on, fuel skyrocketing, power cuts and crime, you should be happy to leave, and also Afrikaans witch i hate.
where are you moving to btw?
anyways, i also moved around a lot when i was growing up, 4 times from country to country. i hated to leave my friends and my life, but, it teaches you a lot about disappointment and the harshness of how this cold ass world can take away the life you knew, but this will make you stronger, or maybe it will make you weak and helpless.
oh noes, they took down the website with the pictures.
Guess I'll have to wait to move in to get them.
This place is gorgeous.

In a month or two I am moving away from the big cluttered house I have lived in for the past thirteen years halfway across the country to live in a rather isolated but awesome little house in Maine
The United Methodist Church has this odd notion where their pastors move from church to church after a certain amount of time, sort of to emulate John Wesley's circuit riding, and keeping the "message" fresh. Because of this and my father's little indiscretions, I ended up moving at least once, sometimes twice a year as I was growing up. Tossing in their divorce, college, bouncing around apartments and college again, I've moved approximately 40 or so times that I can recall.

I was born in Mississippi, moved to Alaska when I was one, (Then a huge flood hit, and 16 years later, the town got wiped out by Katrina.) I moved to Florida when I was 9. Moved to Indiana just before a bunch of hurricanes swept through the place I had lived. Basically I am kind of a harbinger of doom. I just signed a lease yesterday for an apartment in Bloomington (Indiana University college town) a week after the floods fucked up my hometown here.
I lived in Edmonton for 23 years before moving here to Vancouver. I should be moving again in a few months to elsewhere in the city and getting a second roommate in the process. Pretty tame stuff.

I spent my childhood in Hohoq. You probably know it as Ar, the 51st U.S. State that travels throughout North America, parts of which were combined with a piece of Kansas to form Arkansas
my aunt offered to get me a visa so I could live with her and work in singapore, but the fact that singapore google isn't working right now is irrationally souring me on the idea
i just like being settled and it's going to be weeks before i have all my shit

I guess we moved into what I consider my house around when I was six, so before I'd really developed any sentiment towards the place we were living in prior. I still consider the house we moved into my house, but since then my parents have gotten a divorce and I split my time between houses. My mom lived in a condo for a while, and then we moved when she remarried to a normal sized house. But never really moved large distances, always just a town or two over at most. So I can't really relate to the standard moving practices.
I wouldn't do well with moving though, I'm really attached to my house and the area in general and fuck moving out eventually is gonna suck.
