You guys remember that game that was supposed to come out a few years ago? It was supposed to be the spiritual successor to X-Com, but it got canned :(

    It looked really cool too.

Please, dear god tell me it wasn't the Delta Green game by the makers of PotBS.

I need my mentally unstable people taking a month's vacation time at their respective federal agencies to stay in some mildewy hotel for a week investigating the case of a robber who punched a man's head clear off, only to be pursued and shot at by "Air Force" men, then realize in a very large D: moment that everybody in the town, including them, is tainted by alien-bacteria and is likely to eventually become a formless blob of flesh that changes shape, then having them come across the source of the infection as they realize that all of the turned people are almost right behind them.

To go a little farther out of what you're looking for, you could try Icewind Dale 2. I hear it's pretty combat heavy so there's a lot of real-time tactical RPG battles to play with.

Icewind Dale 2 is a pretty good suggestion. It's far, far more about tactical, pause-able combat than about any kind of roleplaying. You can ignore the story, and there's no character based story like in BG2 due to the player created party. It's all about killing orcs and carrying dead cats around the world.
