I'm trying to book a flight to Chicago and found myself lost in the sea of websites out there that sell plane tickets.
What sites have you found the most success with/prefer most?
Personally, I've gotten the best deals with Priceline, but that's because I rarely have to fly on a specific schedule and so usually name my own price.
http://www.kayak.com/ is a site I found last time I was looking that searches a variety of different sites/airlines for the lowest fares and will also show you data over time in charts to help you pick the best date to fly pricewise.

How weird. I just bought tickets for a round-trip flight to Chi for a friend of mine yesterday. I used Orbitz, and my experience with them was not too bad. The prices end up being pretty much the same regardless of the website you are using. One thing, though - Make sure you set up your (free) account with Orbitz before you actually purchase the tickets, though.
There's orbitz, priceline, travelocity, and a few others. However, apparently Kayak finds the cheapest prices, hands down. Good website, too. I just found out about them, and previously had been using travelocity for everything.
I mostly focus on the air line websites....but being in Canada my choices are rather limited so there aren't alot of air line websites I need to check for flights within Canada.
I you're making a direct flight -no stops- then if you check the air lines at your local airport that should cover it shouldn't it?
Make sure that you don't fanny about with it. Once you've exhausted your options and chosen the right flight, buy it immediately. Plane tickets are rising at the cost of hundreds of dollars a day in some cases.

I have found that kayak.com doesn't always get the lowest prices. I usually just search them all (kayak, priceline, orbitz, expedia, and travelocity) until I find the lowest price, then I buy. Works for me.

that being said always check the individual airline website for tickets as well. you can sometimes get it cheaper

I've found an OK deal on a flight called AirTran.
Have any of you used them before?
