HellMOO: Text-based Fallout!

Do you love Fallout? Do you like text games? You'll love HellMOO!

What the fuck are you talking about?

To quote the website, HellMOO is a text-based multiplayer game (MUD) with a post-apocalyptic setting. It is also the best text-based flight simulator available. Most importantly, it provides a valuable public service by allowing people to kill orphans and rape corpses on the internet, thereby keeping such people off the street.

Sounds interesting, but what features are there?

Complete freedom! Feel like pissing on the corpse of a dead dog? Go ahead! Wanna tip that mutated cow? Do it! Want to sodomize the crackhead? Fine by me!

Weapons include: A nail mace, an AK-47, a katana, and a thighbone.

You can do all sorts of immoral shit including but not limited to: Killing orphans, necrophilia, drugs, abortion, scientology, and pornography!

Rape? Corpses? Count me in! How do I get in on this game?

Easy, just get on your MUD client and connect to hell.game-host.org at port 7777!

I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about.

Alright, just download SimpleMU and install it. In the file drop-down, go through the new connection wizard. Simple!

Have fun!

Help me I keep dying!

It's just the dreams of before, you're not actually dying. Just read this. When you get past the dreams of before, be sure to read this, too.

I'm not one much for these sort of games but I'll be damned if the OP didn't make me laugh.

Okay, if you gave up in like, ten minutes, get back to the game! If you keep dying then you're just in the dreams of before. You grab 4 items which will determine your starter skills. Baseball bat for clubs, BB gun for guns, etc. When you got your 4 items, go the fallout shelter, its at the library.

When you got out of the dreams of before, get on chatnet! Simply enter "chatnet on" and ask away if you have any questions! Me and the other players will gladly help you out. Also, be sure to join a corporation, they can give you all sorts of goodies and usually give you a couple of ways to make money. Just ask for a corp in chatnet.

Man, why did it have to be a MUD? I last played one of those about 10 years ago and have no interest in starting again. Especially an old-school "quirky" one that I never liked. (I stuck with the MUD-lite MajorMUD, which was much more straightforward.)

This kind of game just seems like an asshole-magnet. The type of freedom that this provides seems like it would likely only appeal to the type of people I would not want to play a game, text based or otherwise, with.

I really have nothing against open PVP. I have no real desire to be virtually pissed on, though. I might try this someday when I'm bored at work, maybe I'm secretly really into golden showers and internet heroin.

If I ever do try this I hope all the high comedy doesn't sail directly over my head. And yes, that was a pun. That's a type of wordplay that's often related to humor. I have no idea how I acquired this elementary form of joke in my drab and humorless life.

I've always been interested in MUDs, but I've never really tried them. Are there still solid communities out there or have they largely fallen to the wayside as bigger and more polygonal things arrived on the scene?

There are quite a few large MUDs available. If you download SimpleMU and hit Alt+M it seems to bring up a list for you. I'm quite new myself so this is kind of just going by what I have found.
Threshold is also pretty fun but it's more of a fantasy game, we have a [Game On] thread for it.

Cool stuff, I'm surprised I missed that thread before. Looks like Threshold has a heavy emphasis on roleplaying. Does anyone know if HellMOO is like that or more like an IRC chat with other things to do?

HellMOO seems pretty laid back, I didn't actually see one personal really roleplaying but I'm sure you aren't gonna speak OOC in first person chat but there is a world chat that seems completely OOC.

That's exactly what I thought when I first started. Man up and play it, you'll adjust if you try. There's colored text and a minimap and shit if that helps.

I am definitely checking this out! I love MUDs. I built a linux box just so I could screw around w/ one at home. Hell, when I was in High School back in 90 I started going the local university at night to use the computer lab where I'd break out of their gopher/library system to telnet into MUDs.

It probably does not have south by south west, but it has northwest.

I'm spoiled, and have my numpad bound to 8-directional movement in muds, since it's the default in MUSHclient.
