Early birds? (Wednesday arrivals)

So, who else is going to be in Bellevue on Wednesday?

I'll probably be spending Thursday morning/afternoon with a friend of mine that moved to Lynnwood, but if anyone else is up for some Wednesday night shenanigans I'm game.

I'll be at the Extended Stay America because Moe and his damnedable CCST won't be rolling in a day early for my sake, so I had to get my own room for a day.

I'd be up for meeting and doing something Wednesday night. I live in Bellevue though, so I have to work Thursday... I have the important days off , Fri-Sun.

Last year they were playing movies in the now Hilton hotel in a conference room, and there was gaming going on in another. Oh, and I'll be in around noon on Wednesday, but will probably be site seeing in Seattle.

I live near Bellevue. It is likely I'll be in the area on Wednesday, unless I go to Canada for some reason.

Might I recommend a cool bar? It is a sports bar, but it's really nice. It is called "Sport" and it is at the bottem floor of the Komo 4 news building (just a few walkable blocks from the Space Needle).

They have an enormous widescreen playing sports and tv shows, plus each table has their own widescreen on the wall above their booth. A guy walks around and has a tablet PC that wirelessly changes the channels and volumes for all the TVs. It's really neat, and the food is surprisingly affordable (and quite good).

Also, sports celebrities (local and visiting) come in periodically. I've seen a lot of famous athletes there, at least one every time I have gone.

Too bad you aren't coming later in the year either, cause they broadcast a show from the lounge after every Seahawks game, and its funny just how few people will stay there, even if the guest is like somebody huge.

    Anyway, Sport, it's r0x0r.

ANOTHER ATTRACTION that you must all hit. The Science Fiction museum. This is actually located in the south wing of the EMP (Experience Music Project) which is right beneth the Space Needle. The Halo 2 launch party was here, and all the Halo fans got in free. It's REALLY cool, and I'm not going to spoil it for you, but let's just say there are some big aliens...

Space Needle food is overpriced and not too good. While going up to the top is fun, as a resident of Seattle, it's my responsibility to at least suggest a different location for dinner.

If you like seafood even a little, these are both ridiculously good, and are both a short drive from the Space Needle. Yes, they have more than just clams. Their menus are on the sites.

Doc is exactly right - seriously, fuck the Space Needle. Sure it is neat to go up in it, but you'll be paying through the nose for way overpriced bland food. There are SO MANY better places to eat in Seattle. Either of those Ivars restaurants are amazing. If you want a good burger for lunch and you are in Seattle, find a Red Mill, they are amazing. If you want a very fun and delicious Italian dinner, go to Buca de Beppo, especially if you have a large party. Also, the Can Can on Pike Street, next to the Pike Place Market, is a great place to eat, and they frequently have live Can-can dancing with a strange punk-rock feel to it.

In other words, don't make the crappy tourist mistake of going to the Space Needle. It is neat and fancy, but you can have a much better time, with much better food, for a much better price, at lots of other places in Seattle.

Eh. Let them go. It's cool. Geez.

If they want to go up onto the Needle and have food, then let them. I did it and it was quite cool.

Agreed. We did it once. It was very expensive, but worth it. The rotatingness... the view... the novelty.

Here's a couple of pics of my family eating desSert there:

Hey, if you wanna do the Space Needle thing, be my guest.

I was just saying that there are far cooler and better places to go than the Space Needle.

    That's all.

I've not eaten at the needle, but I've been up it a few times. It was just too expensive for me, but if you have the money I say do it. It's not like you can do that anywhere else.

I was going to say the same thing, skip the Space Needle dinner and go somewhere better, but... Lately I've heard that they have a new Chef and their food is actually a lot better.

Aside from that, check out those desserts in the pictures above, how SWEET is that!!!

Of course, bring me a meal that involves fire or dry ice, and I'm bound to love it! =o)

As one of those going with jdarksun, we actually hit the space needle last year too. The view is one thing, seeing the sun set over the mountains from that height while eating what was a rather delightful dinner was something we decided to go for again.

Really don't konw bars in the area, but might give that one a shot. Might have a better chance of meeting up with other early arrivals the closer we stay to the hotels though. Gabe said there was a Rock Bottom out there which also might be a good option (and I usually really like their beers).

Yeah, Bellevue isn't really a hot spot for bars. They have Rock Bottom and the Taphouse right there, though.

Rock Bottom sounds like a bar that should be in Cleveland.

Rock Bottom has some awesome Microbrews, with a rotating dark. Their food isn't half bad either, nothing out of this world, but way better than your average bar and grill. Where else can you get a piece of stout chocolate cheesecake??

    I've never been to taphouse.

Well, I know this is beginning to get into the too-late-to-be-useful range, but I'm around, and the people I know from Seattle were going to go out to get food at Mama's and catch Snakes on a Plane. I know there was going to be another PAX SoaP viewing, but for what it's worth, I think this thing's gonna need some sarcasm to make it worth watching, so the invite stands.

Drop me a PM if you feel like it, and I'll check before I go to send out times.

Actually, I guess I can just mention the theatre. It's the Cinerama, and the movie's at 9:45. So if nothing else, you can consider that. ;)
