Arc Rise Fantasia - New Wii JRPG

See, I have this habit of making threads about games way before they're anywhere near ready to launch. Subsequently, they fade out into the blackness, only to be resurrected weeks before the game comes out. This thread is no different!

I just felt like posting this info since the game looks quite...pretty. I've been aching for a good traditional jrpg on my wii. Hopefully this'll satisfy when (if? localization is still in question it seems) comes out.

Color me interested. Looks pretty cool so far and a new JRPG on the Wii? Yeah, unless something goes horribly wrong, this'll get bought.

What kind of history do these developers have?
Have they done anything interesting previously?

Any JRPG that's not on the PS3 is alright in my book... But only because I don't own one yet. By the time this gets released I'll probably own one though.

To my future self: GET A GOOD DEAL ON IT! Pay off the credit card!

Sorry... Just covering my bases before this dies and gets resurrected a few weeks before release.

They've done Luminous Arc and LA2 for the DS. I can't find anything else.

    According to RPGamer:

Marvelous Entertainment Inc. has announced Arc Rise Fantasia for the Nintendo Wii. The development staff for Arc Rise Fantasia includes a variety of veteran developers including director Hiroyuki Kanemaru (Tales of Symphonia), scenario writer Takumi Miyajima (Tales of the Abyss), character designer Kenichi Yoshida (Eureka 7), and Roguresu (summon beasts) designer Shin Nagasawa (Bahamut Lagoon).

Sounds good. If I had a wii I'd totally be watching this. I'm still watching it for if I ever do get a wii, though.

The characters look like characters from Eureka - or at the very least the design.

Man, I'd love to be interested in this but I just don't know how many years will go by before I can put together 40+ hours of gametime in front of an actual television. Instant suspend + play anywhere will probably make handhelds my console of choice for gigantic games ala JRPGs these days.

In related news, is it September yet? Because I want to play DQIV.
I'll still buy this at some point, and then bitch about how I can't possibly finish it.

Was just gonna say, pink hair and blondie look like Anemone and Moondoggie.

EDIT: Radikal_Dreamer just mentioned the character designer.

Looks like a solid team from the list of people involved. Looking forward to it.

One of the few DS games that made me want to barf.

    Just... bleagh.

I forced myself to finish it, just to see if it got any better. Protip: It doesn't.

Agree with the second half of that. Will cautiously monitor this. At least the engine already looks halfway decent, we'll just have to see if they've since learned how to implement gameplay worth more than a first glance.

Hey, those screenshots don't make my eyes bleed. This an unusual development. Perhaps I will have to get my Wii back from whichever person borrowed it sometime before this game comes out. I could use a good timesink game.

So I dug this up using the search function (apologies if another more recent thread exists). I'm curious....has anyone played/bought this yet? Impressions? I don't know much about this game, but from the gameplay videos I've seen, the fights remind me of Skies of Arcadia.

Giant Bomb has a Quick Look that focuses mostly on the battle system and the awful, awful voice acting.

The lousy voice acting really turned me off from purchasing this game on release. I just don't want to support Ignition and their terrible localization efforts yet again - Muramasa wasn't very well done, and it looks like this is worse. At least you can turn off the voices. I watched the first 30 minutes on YouTube, and it looked like your standard JRPG fare, but the voices are just terrible.

On the plus side, the battles look like they load quickly and are fairly quick. There's also a fair amount of customization you can do - in addition to leveling up yourself, your weapons level up and unlock abilities - some of which are locked to the weapon, others of which you can remove and put on new weapons. And supposedly the boss battles are really difficult.

Basically, from what I've read, if you're itching for a console JRPG, you should get it because it's a pretty decent one. Just turn the voices off if they annoy you too much. Personally, I'm waiting for it to hit $20 or so before picking it up.

Yeah, consensus is that it's fun enough, a satisfying game, but really generic and with awful voices that should be turned off immediately.

I think I still want it because it looks very nice, but yeah, I'll wait on the price.

I may wait to see if I can get a cheaper copy as well, if for no other reason than the fact that my backlog is getting ridiculous.

Thanks for the giant bomb link, it looks pretty good (or at the very least, it looks like what I was expecting). I have been itching for a console JRPG to play. As much as I appreciate my handheld RPGs, sometimes I prefer to be playing on a big TV with a controller that doesn't give my giant hands carpal.

Upon first look, I would've said I played this game on my PSX, and it was called Xenogears back then.

Now? Eeenh. I could link to Tropes for all of the characters featured in the article, but then I'd never come back to these forums cause I'd be lost.
