They'll catch up when they get back--smart players will read the thread for what's been called before signing up, or at the very least, change the number they call when they see someone has called it before them.
It shouldn't be a big deal.

It'll be a color somewhat apopros to the country that will still show up. Most will be a one-off of one of the flag colors, though a Dutch guy might end up with orange or something like that.
