Random Freezing in the middle of gaming.

Hey Guys,

I am having a PC problem and was wondering if anyone has any ideas to what it could be?

Backstory: I just recently reformatted this PC I have been using from Vista to XP and now that everything is back on it runs much faster. But now I have this new issue, sometimes when I am playing Warcraft 3 my PC fully hard locks and im forced to restart the pc.

Im thinking its my memory but I don't know if anyone has any other ideas? Its only happenned while playing Warcraft 3.

Il do memtest and see if it crashes but its so strange I don't why the RAM would bust only during Warcraft 3.

Thanks in advance.

Check the temp on your graphics card; it could be overheating

run memtest, and check the temps of your graphics card. What other games do you play?

You might have the game settings too high.

Thanks for the idea on the graphics card temp, il check that tonight.

Also, im pretty sure my pc is fine for warcraft 3,

    Athlon 64 dual core 4600+
    2 gigs of ram
    ATI x1900 pro

Thanks again guys, il let you know whats up if it happens again. It seems to exclusively happen in warcraft 3.

I havn't tried any other games on my pc though, if it freezes on TF2 or CS:S then its prob either mem or graphics.

So I got the freeze again yesterday while playing warcraft 3 again :x

Then after my hard restart I got it in the desktop watching a youtube video..

    Ugh

Memtest came back fine and my temps are perfectly fine.

I have no idea what this could be...

    Any other ideas guys?

Did you check the GPU temperature, clear out the dust from everything, and try some other games?

If you don't have any other games, download 3DMark and loop it for a while.

    sounds like your graphics card.

    over all to limit freezes:

    cancel all external programs
run the game at minimal settings
    play in windowed mode

also: to increase air flow u can run your computer with the side panel off.

The Gpu temp stays at about 55-60C from what I can gather, which is fine.

I previously took all the dust of the video card itself but my pc isn't that dusty.

I am gonna see if I can borrow my buddies old graphics card and use that to see if the freezing goes away.

    Thanks guys.

In general this will actually harm your air flow.

But! This goes work well if you stick a floor fan next to the case.

sorry didnt mean airflow, meant cooling.

for little to no airflow cases (read CPU and PSU fans only) the increased volume and addition of heat dispersion along with the elimination of an insulating surface helps cool.

if you take the door off make sure you arent keeping your computer in a close space like a desk "computer drawer" better off in the open away from windows and radiators.
