I was unaware we were looking for things not posted by record companies...

True, that was never stated. But when the company who has every right to post the video is the one who does it, I would call that "user created content". In this instance, the record company is using youtube to promote their artist, and they have the rights to the property to do so.

Well the Timbaland video posted by 1988basti has 60million views... and I have no idea who that is.

I'm skeptical, I mean, youtube is pretty damn quick to pull a video as soon as a complaint is made. That one has been up for a year. Either the party owning the rights doesn't mind, or they are allowing it (it *is* promotion and many artists fully understand that this exposure can make them money).

This just makes me think that Google should drop all Viacom copyrighted works form youtube and google video and tell them to fuck themselves.

Edit: and now to watch Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend.

Does something like this fall into parody territory? Can Viacom touch this sort of thing?

has anyone thought about the fact that viacom could use this data to also farm a MASSIVE amount of marketing data? like, horrendous amounts?

It's impossible for us to without a doubt prove the non-existence of God. We just have to take it on faith that he's imaginary..

Does YouTube have any way to track people who watch clips but DON'T have a YouTube account? Because, uh, if not then Viacom wouldn't be getting an accurate headcount anyway. Not that they need ISPs for a headcount anyway.

Bah, the whole thing is idiotic. WTF indeed.

The specifics are listed earlier in the thread. Google has been ordered to hand over both the user names and IP addresses. So if you logged onto your Youtube account at a coffee shop or library, that information could very well be on its way to Viacom.

Why did I ever patronize that terrorism training facility/sex shop/internet cafe?
