The story so far: Qualcomm doesn't make its e-mail client Eudora anymore and development has moved onto version 8, which is currently more-or-less a Thunderbird extension called Penelope. This is Eudora's official successor. There is also an unofficial successor called Odysseus. Unlike Penelope, which is at beta 3, Odysseus hasn't been released in any form yet.
I'm currently looking (on behalf of a friend) for a replacement for Eudora that is as close to Eudora 6 as possible. Would anyone know of such an app? Thanks.
Unfortunately, Thunderbird is not sufficiently like Eudora for my friend's purposes - he basically likes his Eudora exactly how it is. I was, however, hoping that there would be something like Eudora 6 out there so that he could upgrade from 6, which was last updated in 2004 or 2005.

It isn't a calendar, just something like that's really close to Eudora. My friend, you see, wants to stick to Eudora 6, but I'm slightly concerned over the fact that the last update was three years ago. (My personal solution to this problem when I faced it was to just move to webmail.)
I have tried Mozilla Lightning and Sunbird before - quite neat, although I tend to prefer hard copy diaries since you get that peculiar sense of satisfaction in being able to throw it around in exactly the same way that you can't throw a piece of software around. Well, maybe it's just me who gets that peculiar feeling of satisfaction.
honestly, you might have to tell your friend to suck it up. the Eudora train left a long time ago. Tell him it's time to move on, and to spend 15 minutes learning something that does the exact same thing, but looks a little bit different.
Claws Mail seems like it's fairly similar. It's worked well for me on Linux, but while they claim to have ports both for Windows itself or via Cygwin, it might be way more trouble than it's worth.

I'll check that out. If it doesn't work, I could always run it through the seamless mode of something like VirtualBox (because that's obviously a far less troublesome solution...).
can't he just keep on using eudora 6 or does that seem like an overly simple solution
In my world, there is no Occam's Razor.
That's what he's been doing for the past three years or so, but I was slightly concerned over whether or not there might be any issues that have come up in that time, which is why I thought I'd ask if there's something similar around.

There's a Win32 port of Evolution which might work out, though. Thanks.
If it's the calendar you need, Mozilla offers a plugin for that, but it's still very much an alpha thing.
