Because you guys fail at copy-pasting the old OP. Seriously, I spent way too much fucking time on all this BBcode and the guild informations need to be preserved. I don't even play this anymore. If you have a guild or new information for the OP though, please PM me. I'm cool like that.

Mini-Leveling Guide (Technically spoilers)

Apostate wrote: »
For those having some issues with leveling. I'm not sure where this came from originally but it was reposted by my guild leader, and contains some decent info about how to find quests at higher levels.

*Where to Quest at Level X*

-General Tips-
-Accept every quest you see.
-Visit every zone.
-Explore since some quest givers are in wierd locations.
-All dungeons pre 40 are soloable so go explore them.
-If you are stuck in a zone on quests, as in they are too hard or simply bugged, go to a different one.
-Spend some time to randomly kill stuff, yes some stuff drops items that start quests.
-Revisit the main towns to search for quest givers.
-Leaving an instance and reforming/joining a group supposedly resets the instance unless it is a single player instance, like the vila quests in Noble District.
-By the minimap there is a button that allows you to change your instance so if the one you are in is crowded click it and switch to another that might be empty.
-When questing kill EVERYTHING along the way. Don't avoid mobs

1-20 finish your destinay quest in Tortage.

20+ It is possible to pick up gathering professions at 20 in Poitain, Purple Lotus Swamp, and Lacheish Plains(DONT GO HERE IT IS BUGGED ATM). These quests give about 5k xp each but you can level up gathering with them. *WARNING* Respecing feats while having crafting/gathering skills will reset those but you won't be able to get the quests again *WARNING*

20-40 Do every quest you see in Connal Valley, Kopshef Province, and Wildlands. Everytime you finish one of these run it through again to make sure you didn't miss anything. Then run through the others. once all are done run through them all again, some quests only become available at upper levels. Make sure to run through Conarch Village, Khemi, and Old Tarantia a few times to see any quests. There should be quests for the 20-40 instances as well that you get as you level up. At 40ish get all the Burning Soul quests(Zelata has about 4 chains into here which you should get if you cleared the first 3 mentioned zones). In total I hat 7 Burning Soul Quests. Also some of the Wild Lands quests lead you into Border Ranges.

35-40 I ran through Black Castle/Pyramid of the Ancients/Treassury of the Ancients at about 38/39 in Kopshef Province and that got me 2 good levels. Although there are few quests in each of these until you hit their level range.

40-50 Do Noble District in Tarantia and Field of the Dead. If you need more XP try grinding mobs in eiher the vilas in Noble District or the big NPC camps in FoTD.

50-55 You get 7 quests for Cistern/Main System in Noble District at 50 and then I think 2-3 more at 52. This is a world zone that has VERY quick respawn so don't attempt without 5-6 people. It also means you can see people not in your group. If you get a good group its a decent walkthrough. I didn't enter the undead area much but in the Main System sewer area the mushrooms were scarce.

50-60 Eiglophian mountains

52-57 It is possible to grind these levels in the cannibal caves in Eiglophian Mountains. I will grind here till about 59 since it doesn't look like Eiglophian mountains will have enough quests to take me to 60.

*Bugged Quests Section*

-Noble District-
-The Thief- As you get to the second floor on your left will be an entrance with vines on either side. Go to the left set and run by them spamming U to try to climb. After that there is another set of vines that can't be click but must be instead climbed using U. Experiment with positioning. You need between 300 and 350 climbing I believe.
-Noble Beauty(sp?) - The NPCs don't turn hostile after talking to them so you can't kill them. I have heard rumors of trying to swing and them turning hostile but haven't had any luck.
-Arena in Noble District Bar - All these quests are buggy. If you can't do it drop it and try to restart it. The first part where you have to kill Aquilonius(sp?) is very bugged so try to talk to him and swing and eventually you will kill him.
-Black Skulls - One guy is by a pool of blood by the Cistern Dungeon. Another guy patrols in the north of the Noble Open Square type area, Middle north of the zone, The last guy is by the burning bodies in the barracks area if I recall correctly.
-Hopshef Province-
-Enter the Pyramid in Pyramid of the Ancients- Quest doesn't Update so you can't get the next part of the chain.
-Body part quest in Pyramid of the Ancients - The body parts sometimes bug and don't respawn. You could try to exit instance and reform group then go back in.
-Rescue Chick in pyramid of the Ancients - Won't respawn after first person gets it. You could tyr to exit instance and reform group then go back in.
-Destinty Quest - There is a climbing point near the stone arch by the bandits, need 100 to climb it. DON'T KILL THE DEMON BEFORE YOU DO THE LOTUS ON THE ALTAR. If you do you have to either exit the instance and re-enter or relog. (Thanks jattomcat)
-Wildlands of Zelata-
Wounded Child - The child has a VERY long respawn time. One trick is to check your instances, by the minimap there is an arrow where you can click to change it, and if you see a new one pop up switch to there and run to here location, she is at the bottom of the cliff, to see if she is there.

And for any of those getting griefed in a zone: just switch instances. It's the little arrow by the mini map. There's usually around 3-5 instances per zone.

Know something important that isn't here? Send me a PM and it shall be added.

The 12 classes of AoC:
Classes
In Age of Conan, classes are divided into four archetypes. Not all classes are playable by all races, but there is a lot of overlap.

Soldier:

Guardian
Guardian-1.jpg
At level 20
-Guardians are the most heavily armored and well drilled soldiers in Hyboria. Capable of withstanding punishment like no other, they also have an array of deadly attacks that deal devastating damage.
Playable Races: Aquilonians, Cimmerians

Conqueror
Conqueror-1.jpg
At level 20
-Conquerors are a sword-wielding fusion of heavy armor and battlefield command, rare individuals rising from the ranks of Aquilonian generals and barbarous Cimmerian war-leaders.
Playable Races: Aquilonians, Cimmerians

Dark Templar
DT_Preview.jpg
-Dark Templars wear heavy armor into battle, have lethal offensive capabilities, and conjure vile sorcery. Their spells can leech life to enable them to heal themselves or their allies, conjure protective wards and unleash occult energies against enemies around them. They can even sacrifice their own life-force to power their invocations.
Playable Races: Aquilonians, Cimmerians

Mage:

Herald of Xotli
Herald-of-Xotli-1.jpg
At level 20
Hoxdemonform.jpg
Demon form
-Hybrids of the mage and soldier archetypes who wield alien spells and two handed weapons.
Playable Race: Stygian

Demonologist
Demonologist-1.jpg
At level 20
-The demonologist is the mightiest of sorcerers, wielding the power of hell and earth and capable of conjuring pillars of flame or titanic storms of electricity.
Playable Race: Stygian

Necromancer
[ -Necromancers summon and command the undead, and their legion. Their ghoulish minions are capable of tearing men apart or casting their own death magic.
Playable Race: Stygian

Rogue:

Barbarian
Barbarian-1.jpg
At level 20
-The barbarian is one of the most dangerous and feared sights on the battlefield. Their combat style focuses on strength, aggression, and relentless assault.
Playable Races: Aquilonians, Cimmerians

Ranger
Ranger-1.jpg
At level 20
-Rangers are the finest marksmen in Hyboria, capable of stalking an enemy and delivering devastating shots with pinpoint accuracy.
Playable Races: Aquilonians, Cimmerians, Stygians

Assassin
Assassin-1.jpg
At level 20
-Assassins are the most lethal killers in Hyboria. Those aspiring to the top of this profession face the most deadly regime of training, discipline, and study, but the ones that survive are executioners supreme.
Playable Races: Aquilonians, Stygians

Priest:

Bear Shaman
Render_Bear_Shaman.jpg
Not in-game
-Bear shamans are able to equip the heaviest priest armor (medium) and are the sturdiest of all the priests. Capable of mighty combos with their two-handed weapons, and a complement of druidic enchantments, this makes them fearsome enemies in combat.
Playable Race: Cimmerians

Priest of Mitra
Priest-of-Mitra-1.jpg
At level 20
-Priests of Mitra also have the strongest healing powers. They also have the ability to bombard the enemy with holy damage. Their powers to augment those around, heal wounds, and impair enemies make them indispensable to any party exploring Hyboria.
Playable Race: Aquilonians

Tempest of Set
Tempest-of-Set-1.jpg
At level 20
-These followers of Set are renowned for the obliteration and ruin that follows in their wake, but like other priests they have the power to heal en masse and restore life. As well as a variety of martial weapons, light armor, and shields, they can also wield magical talismans in the form of ancient tomes or the hearts of slain monsters.

They are patching twice a month now I think. Maybe once a week (wednesdays). I forget, but they aren't doing it twice a week regularly now. It still seems like every patch is fixing minor bugs you did not know about, and nerfing your main. My sub is active until the end of the month so I will check in periodically to see what has changed. In the meantime I'll just log in and gank lowbies.

They switched to once a weekon wednesdays last week. And while the first patch DID only fix minor things it was the first patch and most likely just the regular Monday patch pushed back to Wednesday.

Chances are this wednesdays patch will be the normal thursday and monday patch.

It's over a month into launch. Just because they changed to less-frequent patching schedules doesn't mean the first one needs to be shite. You act like they make these decisions on the whim and fixes/patches aren't planned well in advance.

So which guild is the most active? I've been playing on Thog and I'm lvl 25 or 26 and bored as hell and I haven't seen one person from the Fangspire Legion.

Also, due to the lack of cool gear and loot, the grind is actually worse than WoW. Am I doing something wrong? I want some sort of tangible reward for my efforts. (This may be why I love Diablo so much)

The point im making is its the "First patch" on the new distribution schedule. i thought it was pretty obvious that patching twice a week meant more frequent and smaller patches. And it's pretty coincidental they switched to a once a week schedule and talked about how they wanted them on the test server longer a week or so after the necro "buff" went live and turned out to be a nerf that reduced their dps across the board. AND the DT coeffecient fix that ended up affecting the HoX as well.

So they decided to test the pathcesmore to fix it, which means that first patch was most likely the normal monday patch just delayed. not the "first patch of the game" the "first patch on the new schedule." do u really think i was that dumb?

Not at all. I was just implying (I guess too vaguely) that I don't think Funcom deserves any leniency at this point with their patches and updates. I don't expect much at all from this coming week's patch, since they've failed again and again at fulfilling any sort of expectations I had for this game.

They know what's wrong with the game. They know what needs fixing. Time and time again I see mind-boggling updates that address little to nothing of what really needs addressing.

Does anyone remember when they said the new content update and PVP system would go live sometime in June? It's now July and we've heard nothing about these things since.

Here's some of what was said back then.. yet nothing at all has been changed since.
People like our open PvP system. There are many plans on how to give this open free PvP even more meaning and Purpose. In the meantime we will be doing some smaller tweaks, and we plan to get these out sometimes in June. I will not go into 100% detail here, but that will come next week! What I can promise is:

    * An update on how sneaking and perception works in PvP (nothing major, but an adjustment).
    * Un change in the amount of information you get when you hover over an other player.
    * An added system of consequence to “ganking”. (Killing much-much lower level players).
    * A system of adding consequence to losing a PvP match, and winning a PvP match + turning on PvP Leveling.
    * A change in how Crowd Control (Root, Knockback etc) works in PvP.
    * PvP gear.

And the "details" promised "next week" never came.

I thought PvP servers would be fun, but having bought the game late I couldn't even get off Tortage without being mega-ganked at every turn. Accordingly, I rolled on Thog and I've been enjoying playing my Ranger, but it's disheartening when five people in the guild on at once is a busy night... on a Saturday.

Accordingly, I rolled on Thog and I've been enjoying playing my Ranger, but it's disheartening when five people in the guild on at once is a busy night... on a Saturday.

If you roll on an RP-PVP server, there is less rampant gankage.

Also, the instance system, although I hate the fact that it exists, serves as an escape mechanism from assholes.

It's like.. there's a really, really ugly chick in your office who always loiters around your desk. It annoys you to no end... but while she's there your boss seems to ignore you, leaving you free to slack off.

    I guess it's a trade off?
Instances are ugly chicks in an office

you don't actually have to travel into any pvp areas in tortage, like, at all

You can reach level 19 100% free of PvP encounters if you so wish

I hear white sands is pretty much the worst pvp environment in the entire game, so I wouldn't go there anyway. It's a shame too, because it's really pretty :)

Maybe if I run another character through I'll go PvP, but for my first time with the content, I wasn't going to worry about which places I could or couldn't go.

If any of you want to roll on an RP-PVP server, I play on Cimmeria as Gorf (Barb) and Ghorfe (Bear Shaman) so hit me up. Got a pretty decent guild, called Reavers, of about 20+ active players. Full Tier 1 City, working steadily towards Tier 2. I dont play soooo much anymore, but I pop on now and then. Kormac and Snake are the other two officers in the Reavers, should you be looking for an RP-friendly guild that looks out for one another.

And there's a lot of good quests to level up quick there too.

So, Ive finally installed this beast of a game, and played a Guardian up to 25 on Set. Its nice - I prefer the combat system to WoW, which always left me feeling... uninvolved. It was a bit of a shock to leave Tortage and all of a sudden have NPCs NOT talking to me - Tortage may very well be the best 'Tutorial' for an MMO Ive ever experienced - though New Player Chat... ugh. I was glad to leave that behind!

So far, Im enjoying the game though it feels somewhat bland - I cant quite put my finger on whats missing, maybe Im just tired of this sort of game. Plus, releasing a game in this day and age without titles, badges, surnames, etc seems a shocking oversight.

I am going to enjoy very much the cries of agony from the Necromancers when the number of pets gets fixed :D

The enemies I've encountered thus far are mostly generic humans, crocodiles and big cats, the environments are pretty bland and the loot really sucks. Also, there's no sense of importance. In WoW, sure you knew you made zero difference in the game world, but they still gave you storyline quests where you were doing stuff of "importance" to your faction. The whole Horde storyline quests from lvl 1-30 were pretty solid and interesting (thanks to scripted events) and the mobs and environments were varied. The quests/missions in AoC seem very cut and dry. Go here, kill that, go here, get that, come back to town to turn in the quests to be assigned another variation of the same thing killing the same mobs to get really crappy loot. I don't think I'm going to play past the first month unless the game suddenly gets more interesting past lvl 30.

If you think titles, badges, and surnames are the only thing they "forgot" to finish before release... god bless you. The real reason for my reply: They already "fixed" necromancer pet quantities... they gave them more.\

I agree on all counts except that quest do feel a bit more important as you level. Many NPCs will start treating you differently as you level up, as if you're more of a hero. Sometimes they refer to your earlier exploits, which is pretty cool.

Other than that, you're right. Loot does suck balls.

This is the most fucked up shit I've read in a long time. I hate to say it since I kind of liked AoC, but I think it might be a not so good idea to include too much "mature content" in an MMO.

Mature content is good. There being no way to distinguish between a Mature Adult, an Immature Adult, a mature adolescent with his folks' credit card, and an immature adolescent with mommy's credit card is, however, bad in a supposedly mature environment.

Like many things in this world, it looked really good on the drawing board. But we threw in the Human factor, and it got all dicked up. What was the PA comic? The total fuckwad theory? Normal Person + Crowd + Anonymity = Total Fuckwad

They did? That was foolish of them. That will definitely come back to bite them in the end - its obvious Necromancers will be nerfed. Anyone who thinks that ISNT going to happen... well, they are blind to the lessons of the past.

And ha ha, I realise many things were left out - but those were fairly glaring omissions that jumped out at me immediately, having spent the last 3 years playing CoH

I haven't played AoC in two weeks. Funcom's inability to fix anything without breaking four other things really turned me off. They also can't seem to balance the classes to save their life. Many classes are still broken, with key abilities missing, broken or sorely under powered...but god damn if Necromancers didn't get some love.

Got my Hox to 64 last night really enjoying slicing dudes up, but assassins got the fatality shaft, at 60 as an assassin I got one new one, as a hox I got 3! Feels awesome swinging a huge sword and breathing fire. Nothing says bad ass more then plunging your sword into the earth and 4 suckers just die in a gush of flame.

Hey dudes, if you didn't know, there's a large hardbound book available for sale describing the world of Hyboria.

It looks pretty nifty. I think it's this one.

That would be awesome, I keep reading the book snips between loading screens and wondering about the stories themselves, since the villains and heros in the game seem to be pulled directly from the literature.

I dunno, had they not used the word "gank", the fact they did this on a RP-PVP server is awesome. Instead of only having regular assassins and robbers, we now get rapists on the roads of Hyboria.
