I've often been surprised that I haven't found a Psych thread here on D&D, as it seems like it would be exactly the kind of show that would appeal to my fellow Debaters and Discoursers. An amusing conceit, witty humor, and enough semantics/grammar jokes to keep all the closeted English teachers happy.
The basic stuff:
Psych is a comedy about Shawn Spencer (James Roday), a young man groomed from childhood to be a police detective by his demanding father (Corbin Berenson). This childhood has left him with much greater than average skills at observation and deduction. Now in his 20s, and back in his hometown of Santa Barbara, Shawn has spent years bouncing from job to job, until he lands in trouble with the law, not for breaking it, but for solving a case! Rather than tell the police the truth, and likely be arrested by the skeptical detective Carlton Lassiter (Tim Omundson), Shawn tells them he's a psychic, a lie he can keep up because of his unique abilities. Realizing that this is the job that he's always wanted (one that lets him do "a little bit of everything") Shawn opens a psychic private detective agency called "Psych" with his best friend Gus (Dule Hill) and begins solving private and police cases with Gus, and the assistance and interference of Lassiter, Lassiter's partner Juliet (Maggie Lawson), police chief Karen Vick (Kirsten Nelson), and Shawn's father.
Why you should be watching it:
Because it's freaking hilarious. Seriously, in just the first season Shawn solves a mystery at a Civil War reenactment, solves a murder where the only witness is a housecat, and discovers a saboteur and murderer at the regional Spelling Bee. Each episode has an amusing premise in its own right, and the characters are just awesome. The interplay between Gus and Shawn, and Shawn and Lassiter are both particularly funny.
How to watch it:
You'll find it on USA Network, for those of you with basic cable. Those of you residing in the US should also be able to watch in on Hulu, or buy it on Amazon Unbox if you like. I can't verify the first one, I don't reside in the US currently. Finally, the 1st season is out on DVD, and the 2nd is due to release this month, I believe.
Also, the new season starts next Friday, the 19th, so stay tuned!

And I think you meant
It is possible that I am wrong, or I am right but it is good anyway.
Also, this is pretty much nothing like Scrubs. The only thing that might be similar is Shawn and JD's hairstyle.
Other than the being black/tan best friends and being hilariously effeminate, not really. Shawn is the under-achieving genius, Gus is the meticulous nerd. I'm surprised it's not more poplar around here really.
Also. Scary Sherri. Best reaction to a ghost.....Ever.
Monk was good at the start, but it just lost steam as it went on. Glad to see this is the final season.
Burn Notice is awesome though. They should pair that one up with Psych.
Psyche is basically a silly less depressing version of Monk. Same stupid entirely too complicated for it's own good murder of the week plot. Good character interaction makes it worth a watch every now and again.
Man, someone less lazier than me should totally make a thread for Burn Notice. So happy that show is coming back.
Or we could make this a USA shows thread. That Witness protection show looks pretty good too.
Edit- Well lo and behold, there's already a thread! Off I go to speak highly of Jeffrey Donovan

"That doesn't make any sense. None. Whatsoever."
Also whats this burn notice? I'm out of the loop it seems

"Mr. Guster, I know you said you didn't want to be interrupted, but there's a Lieutenant Crunch here to see you."
"Crunch?"
"Actually, I've been promoted, it's Captain Crunch."

Shawn: Aren't you going to ask us if we did it?
Gus: Ask him, I plead the fifth.
I wish I could find the Telemundo episode theme song.
Hehe. Yeah. I love that episode. It's particularly amusing because James Roday was born James Roday Rodriguez, so I imagine his Spanish is pretty good.

Gus: So the prophecy has been fulfilled.Shawn: Hmm. What? What are you talking about? What prophecy?Gus: Nothing. I just figured it was finally my chance to say something dramatic. This show? The best show.
Then my plan has come to fruition. Mwhahahaha!
"Oh ye immoral man of low fiber!
...You should really eat more bran."

Now I have moved to Canada and it's not on anywhere (except the NBC reruns which I guess are done now) and it makes me sad.
I nearly fell off the couch during the telenovela episode when the theme came on. I loves me some half-assed Spanish. (Yo se! Sabe! Que no diga la verdad!)
Sort of. One episode takes place at a comic convention, so Gus has nerd cred. Video games specifically we haven't seen yet, but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

It's a complete rip-off of Psych.

'Guy has amazing observational skills and decides to help the police. Everyone thinks he's psychic. The only differences are that he doesn't claim to be one and it's a serious drama. There is no Shawn/Gus witty banter which means the show is destined to fail.

And I just listed to the full version of the song..you seriously can't download that anywhere?
Every fights a food fight when you're a cannibal.
Actually, a quick check of my old bookmarks has the page, and there's a link to the song. Here's their site.
It is, sadly, still in Engrish, but that will have to do for now.
And I'd totally buy albums, were that available.

I love this show and all the bright, cheery murders.
How far are you caught up?

only the first four eps. sometimes Gus's acting is a bit off, and sometimes the flailing psychic visions bit gets a bit old, but there are some really golden bits of dialogue. it really does remind me of scrubs.
That similarity wears off a bit when you watch a bit more and realize that nothing quite on the level of Scrubs quirkiness really happens.
The flailing visions tend to turn to less flailing and more bizarre performance art style visions. And Gus is awesome. Give Dule Hill a chance.
