I was just wondering to myself about the new iPhone apple is releasing on Friday. I know the new price for it is severely reduced which makes me wonder: Will they drop the price of the iPod touch as well? Seeing as how they are very similar devices I dont see why apple wouldnt at least match the prices. Anyone know anything about this or have any predictions?
I doubt the iPod touch will drop, the iPhone is being subsidised now where as it wasn't before. If you are an existing AT&T customer and want to upgrade early it will run you $399 (8GB)/$499(16GB) or $599/$699 for a no-commitment contract.
The back to school ipod offer this year is an 8GB ipod touch. Apple tends to replace whatever ipod it is offering in the promotion a few months later, so something is probably going to happen with the 8GB touch. A hardware upgrade doesn't seem too likely, as the app store is coming out, and they'll probably want the devices to all have similar specs. I'm guessing the 8GB is going to get a price drop or get phased out
Didn't stop me from getting a touch a few days ago, though
If I get an iPhone 3G, can I continue to use my old iPhone (minus SIM) as an iPod touch? I don't want to sell it or get rid of it, I'd like to use it as a dedicated iPod for my car.

The thing is, the prices may be lower, but they still come with a 2 year contract.

I've been a maccie for the better half of some odd 15 years or so, and I'm ashamed to say that the iPhone is probably their biggest rip off to date.
