Flagship Studios: layoffs, studio closing

Sorry if this has been posted already, I didn't see anything and nothing popped up in search but apparently multiply sites are reporting that the studio is closing.

    It's been covered in the HGL thread. The only site that I can find that claims the studio is closing is diii.net

    Well that would really suck. Mythos is a great game and it isn't even in open beta yet.

    Mythos is pretty fun, I hope they manage to keep it going and improve it. My secret fantasy is that they all get offered jobs with Blizzard again.

    It is sad news.

    But I am glad that a business model as retarded as Hellgate's didn't work out for them. As interesting as the game was to people playing it, that model needs to die so hard other businesses look at Flagship and recoil in horror.

    It wasn't that bad. I mean, hell, people pay $15 a month for MMOs. I'm sure a little longer in the oven and HG:L would have been just as addicting as Diablo 2, and would have definitely worth the $10 a month.

    I think things are way more random than you suggest. If HGL had taken off, it surely would have been worth a fee. It didn't, so it isn't. Therein lies the challenge. Success is rare.

    And really, with the announcement of Diablo 3, how long would HG:L last? It was touted to BE Diablo 3 after all.

    I agree, if you're going to make a MMO, do so and don't half-ass it while pretending you aren't screwing your customers over at the same time.

    I think this is going to cause a lot of drama though, because has FSS actually confirmed they are closing yet or is this still internet speculation?

    I think it's just internet speculation but well being a lifetime subscriber, I'm really worried that i'm gonna be screwed over for subscribing to the game.

    I really hope it's not true but we will see I guess.
