The fact that it's a PS3 game might have killed the enthusiasm for it somewhat here. I loved Disgaea 2, but since I won't have a system that can play it probably until at least the middle of the next generation, I haven't bothered to care about it.

This right here. When I was at the NIS-America panel at Anime Expo earlier this week, crowd reaction to the footage of Disgaea 3 that they showed was great. When they mentioned that it was a PS3 game, the applause was very scattered (contrast this to the fact that merely mentioning the DS at the same panel resulted in tons of applause).
They should have done the same thing as Atlus and Persona 4 and just released Disgaea 3 on the PS2. I mean, it's not like Disgaea 3 is really taking advantage of the PS3's power.

Agreed. NIS seems to be content to keep pushing out mediocre-looking games, so they might as well release them on a system owned by more of their fans. Granted, I'll probably buy Disgaea 3, but I won't be happy about it.

I don't think they are mediocre, but definately not necessary on the PS3 from what I could tell...

I just mean in the sense that they still seem to be using a very small number of frames for animation, and the sprites aren't even close to as high resolution and awesome looking as they could be.
By now, I'd expect them to at least look as good as say, Guilty Gear's.

The fact that there is a Disgaea DS that doesn't look that different from a PS2 game should be pretty telling that there games do, in fact, lack something graphically.

At least? Guilty Gear X2 is gorgeous.
Yet it's on the PS2. I'm just saying, when it comes to 2D animated sprites, I would expect a PS3 game, especially an SRPG, which doesn't exactly have a lot of crazy shit to render at once, to look at least as good as one of the better looking 2D PS2 games (hell, I'll throw Odin Sphere out there as well, if Disgaea 3's sprites looked like that, I wouldn't take issue)

I hope they're packing that disc to the brim with content.
And if they are I don't give a shit if they use ascii. Man you are still gaining skills in the thousands.
Bunch a graphics whores allaya.
Before taking offense recall the series graphics here and apply sense of humour.

(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
Just popped in Disgaea 2 and immediately remembered why I stopped fucking playing.
I am at the Cave of Wonders or some shit and there is this Orange Zombie on a platform a MILLION miles away and I cannot fucking reach him.
It is im-fucking-possible. Nobody has the reach, or the spaces to travel.
I don't have my DJ guide handy, but this is either one where you need a bunch of guys w/ 5 throw range stacked on top of each other, or you need to mess with geopanels (warp, damage, etc).
On topic...yeah, I can't see why NIS jumped to the PS3 if they weren't going to go for SFII HD level of graphics.

I was always really annoyed at how there are characters with wings, but they cannot fly to the islands in the battle maps. And when an Item Resident is on an island outside of your throw reach, grrrrrr.
While Disgaea is addictive, buying a PS3 just to play it is a hard sell, especially when I'm getting into the meat of the game with the transmigration, item leveling, etc.

Especially given that it's likely to largely just be a retread of the stuff from the first two. NIS isn't exactly known for changing things up much.
I expect the game will feature a goofy plot, characters I don't care about, leveling and other systems which are easily exploitable and indeed must be exploited so that I can fight ridiculous enemies with large numbers attached to them, and mostly the same classes and attacks as the last two games.

Well they pretty much just revealed yesterday that they're working on a new PS3 game that'll look much better.
He continued on to say that NIS' next title for the PS3 will harness more of the power of the platform and shouldn't garner complaints that it looks like a PS2 game, like Disgaea 3 did.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

Good thing demons live over a thousand years...
'cause Laharl will need that time for cameos
...seriously, at some point it just starts looking lazy...
In other news, I think the developers said at some point that the game is on the PS3 because of... many... new... game... variables... sumthin. You know, too many numbers for a mere PS2 disc.
I will definitely get this game now that I have a ps3, and also because my cousin won't let me borrow his copy of 2.
I really don't want to mess with that stupid tower stacking mechanic. It's diculous.
When I learned you could do that in DG1 whilst abusing that level with the "everything except for one tile is unkillable" geosphere active, it turned from a good but annoyingly grindy game to un-fucking believably awesome.
I'll probably pick up DG3 to justify my PS3's existence, but it'll just be a retread of DG1 wherein I'll reach a point where I get sick of grinding and I'll go "fuck this game".

For only $50 you get the game and 2 sound track CDs. They also have some more expensive preorders with strategy guide and Digital Media guide.

OMG WHY DUNT THEY PUT IT ON TEH PS2 I DONT HAVE A PS3 MY FRIEND SAID THAT HE WOULDNT BUY IT SO THAT MEANS EVERYONE ISNT GOING TO BUY IT
My reenactment of how every Disagea 3 thread goes.
As for me you know Im waiting and ready to rock.
Anyways, I just have a question if someones played the Japanese version.
Have they refined the gameplay at all? Is there anything new about it or is it just same old same old?

There's about as much of a difference between 1 and 2 as there is between 2 and 3.
