That ice cream, despite technically being a solid when you buy it, is sold in liquid measurements. Like, you buy a Litre of ice cream, not a Kilogramme. This is great, because a Litre sounds so much more delicious when you say it than a Kilogramme.
Firstly, Litre is a measurement of volume. A 1.6L engine, for example, is a measurement of the volume in the pistons. If you take a 2 litre container of ice cream and melt it then freeze it again, it won't fill the container. The amount of air trapped in the ice cream is not totally consistent, so different containers of the same brand might vary in weight quite a bit.
