Ok, since the Elite didn't drop 50 I guess that decides it for me. 20 GB premium it is!
Exactly what kind of HDMlI cable do I need to order from monoprice? I'll have a simple setup: 360 > 24" monitor (with cheap computer speakers, and maybe even just the monitor's chintzy speakers). I can figure out my needs for length (not long, maybe 3 feet :winky:) and "version" (1.2, 1.3, etc. I believe it doesn't matter much for me because I won't have some crazy high-def-sound system). However I'm not sure on 'flat' and 'in-wall (do they need to be run through a wall for some reason?) and the number prefixes (26a, 28a, etc.).
Well, pretty much every cable on that site is cheap (way cheaper than the $45 Microsoft charges for the 'official' cable), I just don't know which flavor of cheap best suits my needs and whether there's any appreciable difference.
Do NOT repeat NOT get Monster cables, or anything ridiculously expensive. Like Dis said, the cheaper the better. Also, avoid big chains like Circuit City and Best Buy, they jack up the price. Your best bet is either a Fry's or a dedicated A/V store.
edit: or the internet, which is what this thread is about apparently (doh)
Since apparently nobody else is reading your post... >_>
HDMI 1.2 will be entirely sufficient, as if I'm not mistaken, the 360 doesn't meet the 1.3 specs. 24AWG, 28AWG, etc. just refers to the thickness of the wire (AWG stands for American Wire Gauge), and for HDMI, even the skinny ones are fine. Cable type (round or flat, standard or in-wall) doesn't really make a lick of difference in most cases, so get what's cheaper.
i guess it's obvious since no one mentioned it, but does the premium have an HDMI port? i dunno what I got but it doesn't have hdmi. mine's somewhat old.

All the 360's now have HDMI. Our old ones don't.
However, a few months ago I had an RRoD and they sent me back a model with HDMI.
Best of luck though, it seems random from what we collected in the GTA thread.
"in-wall" cables are UL certified so that if you're running them through a wall for whatever reason you have a reasonable guarantee that they won't set fire to something, not even years down the line. More importantly, whoever you have fire insurance with will pay attention to that. If you're not running it through a wall, get whatever.
