So I was shooting the shit with one of my pals, talking about all sorts of stuff when the conversation turned to television shows and stuff we thought good. of course, the Warner Brothers' Superman and Batman Animated shows came up, and by extension, the Justice League (and Justice League Unlimited) show.
So we thought, wouldn't it be cool to run a game in that style? For those who have seen the shows, you probably know what I'm talking about; every episode, a couple of the 'cast' of characters get entangled in the plot for that episode and solve it while the other guys are off doing their own thing. And of course it follows the comic book tropes to boot.
And then I got to thinking, yeah, it could probably be fun. Basically taking on a bunch of characters and then scheduling sessions (1-3) to play out an episode and then after that's done, moving on to the next one with probably a new cast.
And of course like with any TV show, every so often you get a thrilling two-parter. And maybe at the end there's a big season finale with everyone. I don't know, it might be ambitious, but I see some potential here.
I'm just taking stock of interest. Seeing if I can get 6-9 people who can probably make some IRC sessions and like superhero action. System would probably be Mutants and Masterminds.
Okay I guess there are people interested. Here's the guidelines:
Style: This is going to be modern era, with a healthy dose of seriousness. That said, there is also a degree of camp. I refuse to allow any supers who aren't appropriately named and atleast have some kind of costume. Superman isn't Superman without his red and blue tights with an S-shield. There's a reason why Batman and Robin are called the Caped Crusaders amongst other things.
Mechanics-side: PL 10. Post your concepts and stats and stuff or get in touch with me on AIM if you have questions, and I'll answer it up.
And lastly: You
must come up with some kind of Arch-nemesis. Not stat him/her up of course, but atleast have an idea of why he or she is a villain and their powers. After all, how can I run a Legion of Doom-esque episode without a suitable Rogues Gallery?

Also M&M is d20, right? I hate that.
But I could be a neat superhero. I think. Don't really know.
Mutants and Masterminds is d20, but it's not at all like Saga or D&D in execution.
But you already know that, Arcanis.
The idea sounds very, very nifty. (I'm also happy to see it'll probably be an IRC game, Play by Posts just don't seem to be doing it for me anymore.) Count me as entirely in.
To Rainfall: Don't let the D20 fool you - Mutants and Masterminds is no D&D clone, not by a long shot. Easily one of my favorite systems.
Edit: Oh, by the by, are we talking First or Second edition here?
Dibs on either the billionaire playboy with dead parents or the faceless detective. :P
To Hylian: Why not be both?
Sounds good!
(oh, and obligatory link)
Hylian, see when he was a boy, he and his parents were attacked by a mugger, back-lit by flickering street lamp. He could see none of the man's features, only his... Silhouette.

Lady Amazing
Punch Girl (I like this one)
Miss Awesome
etc
I like Miss Awesome and Punch Girl quite a bit but perhaps they are silly
Lady Amazing is cool though
I think I'd like to go for an arcanist type hero, a Dr. Fate / Dr. Strange kind of guy.
Dr. Anachronous. The doctorate is in mixing drinks, but he's got a masters in arcane study and a bachelors in extra dimensional entities.
Sggdarthur Alaziul, The Moon Lord
Basically a cross between Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter, who happens to be... king... of the moon.
I'm thinking Spider, the herald of a member of an animalistic pantheon of gods. Like Wonder Woman except more tribal than greek and more hocus pocus than punchy.
This.
I'd be interested in playing if the time is right.
Punch Girl? Definitely silly, but very awesome.
At least, that's what I decided.
How about... Iron Joe, the super-powered steel mill worker.
Edit: Super strong or incredibly difficult to kill... hmm...
Born with six arms, completely black eyes, a larger spider tattoo/mark on her back, and a spiritual connection to her creator, the Spider God (aka Anansi, Iktome, etc). African, shaved head, tribal/mystical markings. Carries six ivory daggers and a staff/spear for voodoo...I'm thinking illusions mostly but undecided (oh god the spiders they're all over me!). I'll have to look up what the cost is for lots of arms.
Her Nemesis is Coyote. Both are avatars of trickster gods, but one is amused by the heroes and the other by the villains, and the battle of the two is something of a game.
don't you steal my powers
Nightfall was an experienced telepath who let loose an all-powerful dark force that was about to engulf the world, and managed to cage it inside herself temporarily. Most of her telepathic powers are used to keep the force at bay, but in times of need she can use the dark force to do extremely powerful acts of violence. When she does this, however, she begins to be enveloped in shadow. Imperceptably at first, but more and more the more of the dark power she uses, her control starting to slip as she calls on the darkness to aid her. (this effect goes away when she's able to rest and reassert her dominance over the force)
The worst she has ever gotten was during a drawn out fight with her nemesis, who she had to flee from- she had seemed to be a figure made of absolute darkness, with 2 red slits for eyes and 2 halos of darkness circling around her body... And her control over the force was near to breaking- she felt sure it would turn her, causing her to become like it, and lay waste to the world through -or with- her. She never wants to go that far again, or see what would happen if she pushed things further.
She firmly believes her death would mean the end of the world, and that even falling unconscious would lead to horrible things, as she would be unable to maintain the prison, allowing the force to go free and begin spreading throughout the world.
Makes chargen a lot easier
thank you el skid
be careful with it because it's bugged so check your math manually as well
Yeah, I couldn't unzip it, but exploring it and manually copying the files seems to have worked. At least so far...
also i think that's a little too dark skid
I can definitely try and tone it down a bit. :P
I like this but I think maybe the six arms might make people a little more irrationally frightened of you, same with the black eyes
EDIT: when i think about it i think this concept might be a little too freakish
She's got the heart of a prankster though
Spider and Coyote have been playing for hundreds of years, Spider gets a point when she gets Coyote tossed in prison, Coyote gets a point when he tricks Spider into sleeping with him
Also getting away with a scheme, but he perfers to score by scoring
