So, I've been having issues with my Xbox overheating for a while. I got one of thous fan kits that snaps on the back to try and keep it cool. It worked for a while, up until it started making a really, really loud sound. After some inspection I came to find that one of the two cooling fans in side the Xbox was not spinning when I turned it on. I guess the extra fans were making the non working fan spin in such a way that made a loud buzzing sound.
This isn't the only issue with this box, but its the one issiue keeping me from actualy using it.
the manufacture date is: 2005/12/13
Now what I want to know is, whats the policy for fan replacment? And does anyone know of having such an early Xbox allows me to some kind of special treatment as far as replacement/repair goes? Also, any tips on dealing with the Customer Service reps would be greatly appriciated.
You are out of your original warranty, which lasts one year. If you want this specific issue to be fixed, you will have to pay for it.
If you get the three red lights on the front of your Xbox, then you will be able to get a free repair up until December 13th of this year. After that you will have to pay for any and all repairs.

The warranty actually begins at the date of purchase, not the date of manufacture. The date of purchase is registered with Microsoft by the retailer. My first 360 was built well over a year before I bought it.
Also, I second being polite. It really, really helps... try not to get frustrated, even if you can't understand them (it'll happen).
The warranty for 360's is now 3 years. Call the xbox line and tell them when you bought it, if it's less than three years ago they'll give you a refurbished one. Don't try to BS them either, I believe (although I could be wrong) that Microsoft tracks the sale dates of each serial number.

Even though it's been said above, to correct this: it's 3 years ONLY for the 3 red ring issue (which is overheating, but not a fan dying), everything else still only has a 1 year warranty
but call them up anyway and see what they say... but i'd also not tell them about the external fan (and don't use it when you get it back, those things are at best useless)

Not in my experience. YMMV.
