Best fish tacos in San Diego?

Ok, the title pretty much sums it up. I'll be in San Diego next weekend for comic con, with my wife. She really wants me to take her to a good/famous fish taco place in San Diego while we're there. However, I'm not very familiar with the city, and google results have been pretty impersonal so far. So what say you, PAers? Where's the best place for fish tacos in San Diego?

I've never heard of a "famous" place in San Diego for fish tacos...they're just kind of there. Usually when I want fish tacos, I go to Rubio's. It's a fast food chain, but pretty yummy. You could also try Islands. Again a chain, but a decent sit-down restaurant. They mostly do burgers, but have decent fish tacos.

Just look for the shabbiest Mexican shop you can find. It's sort of an inverse relationship: worse the shop better the food.

Quoted for truth. The absolute best stuff comes from those lunch trucks. Although with that inverse relationship comes the question of hygiene.

But you know. No risk, no winnings.

As as honest to god Mexican that has lived in Mexico, and border towns for a good portion of my life, they seriously speak the truth. If you want real good tacos or mexican food for that matter, small, shabby places are awesome. in my last trip to Austin I was able to convince my gf to stop in a place where it looked like we might get shot, but it was soo good.

Also, if they don't sell Horchata, then don't even bother.

I actually take calls for all three of those chains. You know the number you call to complain about a store there? Yeah, you'd reach me.

I believe, BELIEVE that Pokez sells fish tacos. I ate their other entrees and my boyfriend lived there at the time...but he's vegan. So, I'm going to need some kind of back up. But if they do, it's a really good place to eat and has a very punk atmosphere. When I went into the bathroom I was like "...WHOA."

But it's clean and you see a lot of interesting people in there. Saw an entire family in African garb once.

I don't recall the name, but there is some place relatively near to the con that sells seafood in buckets.

    Go there.

I may not be Mexican, but I am a born and raised San Diegan. This man speaks the truth. The divier, the better.

Alternatively, if you're more interested in the 'fish' part than the 'taco' part, there are a few fantastic seafood places relatively close to the convention center. Point Loma Seafood is a divey place (it's a fish market that happens to cook stuff and have some tables set up outside), and The Fish Market (at Seaport Village, within walking distance of the con) is a slightly fancier sit-down place (but still very down-to-earth, unless you eat in the fancy restaurant upstairs). They both have their own fishing boats and get really fresh and high-quality stuff.
