importing t shirt from japan

I'm thinking of buying a t-shirt from Japan off of e-bay.
Are there different size standards? I've heard the japanese large is more like the USA medium.

Is that true?

    From what I understand, it's more like a half-size smaller. Not that half-sizes really exist.

    But yeah, one size smaller is a pretty good estimation to go by.

    I wear large t-shirts in the states. XL in Japan is just barely big enough.

    I wear XL in the UK, but 4XL in Japan.

    You should probably ask for a measurement, and then you can convert from cm into inches.
