I'd forgotten how great this game is. I wished it was as bizarre as Killer 7, but it's still a fun ride.

I got really bored of the combat like, three missions in, but it's still such a good game. Mario Galaxy and this switch around for my favorite Wii position depending on my mood.

    http://schlaghund.wordpress.com/2008/03/11/no-more-heroes-is-not-punk/

Edit: It's not really that replayable, and it took me around nine hours with quite of a bit of messing around, so I'd recommend a rental for this one.

It's also worth note that the game is cheap as shit in the states now. I believe it's regular MSRP is now $20.

I bought it new for $7.46 about a month ago. This is less than the cost of the rental in which I beat it.

I love the boss designs and the ridiculous storytelling, but the real reason to play the game is the Dark Side Mode assassination mission.

I do love this game. Came for the the gory executions, stayed for the angry reprimands for getting off killing people. Also, the pointless collecting.

I bought this game based on it being a fun action game with hilarious over the top violence. Unfortunately I wasn't aware that the version sold here is the gimped one, so I ended up with just the fun action game part. :(

I watched a God Hand lets play and it made me want to play this again (not having God Hand and all). I quit playing part way through on the easier difficulty (don't ask why) and while I want it to be harder I don't want to play all the way through again, so it sits on my shelf instead...le sigh

I just ordered Killer7, if I enjoy it enough I'll get this too. This has been on my 'maybe buy' list of wii games for a looong time, I wish I could find it like super cheap somewhere.

No More Heroes is much, much, MUCH better game than Killer7. So much so that mentioning them both in the same sentence should almost be a crime.

Well, I wouldn't let Killer7 determine whether or not you get NMH. They are pretty much nothing alike.

I didn't like Killer7 at all, but No More Heroes has been one of my top 5 favorite games this generation.

    Rot in hell.

They are both fantastic games and should be held up as an exemplar of quality in their respective niches and as a refreshing experience for serious and casual and young and old alike, you bastard.

To be fair, I wouldn't recommend making your decision on NMH based on if you like Killer7, because they are completely different games.

I really didn't like Killer7. I appreciate what it was trying to do, but the gameplay sucked. However NMH is awesome. A more apt comparison, like someone said, is God Hand.

Yeah, I wouldn't say Killer7 is a bad game, it just wasn't for me. Lots of people really like it, so the quality of the game is pretty subjective. One thing that is very certain though is that Killer7 and NMH are as different as night and day.

Edit - Okay, so what YodaTuna just said.

Throw me in the list of people who disliked Killer 7, but loved NMH.

Just hit rank 6, seriously loving this game so far. Its gotten quite a few chuckles out of me so far, especially the messages left by beefhead videos.

Also, the soundtrack is pretty damn catchy.

Also: NMH was probably one of my favorite games of all time. The Wii sold itself when I played this and Super Mario Galaxy. Everything else is just an added bonus.

So, about how long is this game? I bought it a few weeks ago but I was in the middle of a Mass Effect campaign when my 360 died. I start a new shoot Monday so I won't be able to play any game for 4 weeks and I don't want to be in the middle of a game and abandon it for a month.

It takes most people around 8-12 hours on their first playthrough, depending on how much collecting and stuff you want to do. It's not a super long game at all. You could finish it by Monday.

Just completed the first assassination...this game is pretty great. I really enjoy the combat and the little touches like the cell phone/wii remote interface. Anyone have general tips or advice regarding the game. I've got the hang of the battle system, but I'm sure I'll miss some things here or there.

Well, it can be handy to power up your deathblows and I don't think that's ever made clear in the game. When it slows down right before the blow is delivered, do the motion again. You should see a bunch of triangles and the beam should get brighter. IT'll do more damage when it connects, which can be useful to kill instead of just knocking down the baddies on the edge of the swing.

Holy crap guys, how come nobody told me this game was so good?

The combat is a fun mix of different tactical moves and actiony mashing. It uses motion control without feeling like it was forced in. The controls are fluid and solid, I never feel like I'm fighting against the camera or against my character. It has a main character who isn't just a boring badass, he actually has quirks and style. It draws on the traditions of mexican wrestling, along with japanese and american influences both.

I mean jesus, this may be the best action game I've ever played.

If you can't consistently do the darkside dodge, forget about it. He also has an instant kill attack that looks a whole lot like the start of one of his combos IIRC, and he'll use that pretty liberally after he gets to about half health - but he also leaves himself wide open if you dodge it initially. It's possible to combo him almost endlessly, actually, because once you get a combo going if you don't do a wrestling move he'll eventually counter with melee attacks....which you can easily darkside dodge and then wail on him some more.

Of course, the above strategy really only works if you have
the Tsubaki III infinite power saver
. Wrestling moves do take a good bit of health off of him, too - he's just more likely to do harder to dodge and more damaging moves when he gets up and has a bit of space. Love that fight, though.

    She's....
not the last boss - at least, not if you have the Tsubaki MIII. And she can be a REAL bitch, since you can't stun her off the darkside dodge most of the time and even if you do you can't use wrestling moves. She's another candidate for the nearly infinite combo - wait until she does that lunge thing, and then fuck her up FAST. When the stun wears off, she'll attack high so as long as you just pound her up high while she's stunned you'll get a weapon clash as soon as she recovers. If you win, she'll be stunned again and you can repeat ad naseum. Beware, though - she's probably the only fight in the game where it's entirely possible to lose the weapon clash if you don't really spin fast.
I hated that fight. Felt like it took everything you learned to utilize throughout the game, gave you the finger, and then laughed at you. The strategy I used felt fucking cheap, which sucks because the rest of the fights were satisfying to win because you felt like it actually took some skill. Well, most of them.
