Awesome release trailer
Announced at E3 as finished, Fable 2 is set to be released in October and it's about time people started caring about this.
What is Fable then?
Fable (and consequently Fable 2) is some sort of action RPG from well-known UK-based (Guildford, to be precise) developer, Lionhead Studios. It is set in the land known as Albion, which features a number of towns and cities for the player to explore along their journey. Fable 2 is set 500 years later in the same land. Buzzwords used to describe the feel are as follows "colonial, age of enlightenment,
highwaymen". There are guns, but they are primitive. There may also be tri-corner hats. Also buckets on hobbes.
So what's new?
Lots!
There is co-op, for a start.
Both online and same-console are available (not sure how it handles the latter, splitscreen or not), but you can certainly play Fable 2 with another person. This is handled slightly differently to other systems, the player whose world you are in is treated as the Hero, while the second player is a henchman. They receive an hourly wage and there are options to divide loot. These are (I believe) negotiable, and anything earned can be taken back to your world
How do you set that up?
Orbs! As you explore Albion, you will see pearl-like orbs moving around, minding their own business. These are actually other players on your friends list who are also in the game. You can even interact with these to talk to them, gift them stuff, compare stats, boot them out of your world, or invite them in to play properly. This process is said to be seamless. There should also be ways to filter the orbs that you see.
The dog!
Okay, this one caused a lot of people to play Conclusion Hopscotch when it was first announced, but has since seemingly turned into a
good idea.
So what does it do? It acts as a UI. No it doesn't do everything for you but it will be very useful. Firstly, it replaces your mini-map. It does this by helping you navigate the world, looking for nearby items or places of interest, alerting you of any nearby miscreants, and probably a whole bunch of other things too. It also assists you in combat by attacking people who are your biggest threat. If you have a gun out and are shooting at someone in the distance, the dog will attack people who are closer. Pull out a close-range weapon and the dog will go long.
It also loves you, and even if wounded or injured, will follow you wherever you go even if you try to lose it.
One-button combat!
No conclusions until you've read this, please.
Rather than try to describe it myself, here's a piece from a Eurogamer preview
combat may be Fable 2's masterstroke. "One-button fighting" may not sound very involving (and the name isn't misleading: melee, ranged weapons, and magic each have their own face button, and it's perfectly possible to play through the game at that level if you wish to) but deeper options are still available.
Take sword-fighting: a single press triggers a basic swipe, but moving the left stick while holding the button down gives you a flourish move: you'll do more damage, but be more vulnerable. Tapping in time with the rhythm of the music also enhances attacks, as does the game's context-sensitive system, which brings the environment into play depending on where you're standing. Spells and ranged weapons have the same depth - guns and bows can auto-target or switch to a manual aim, and a variety of different spells can be selected by varying the length of the button press, aimed with the left stick, or used in combination.
Our combat demo is a fight through a misty swamp, with enemies lurching out of the ground and attacking in groups. It's a genuine thrill to battle them, and the way the system allow you to switch weapons with no planning meant we were quickly chaining attacks together, finishing off nearby nasties with flourishes, then taking out ghouls in the distance with the shotgun. There are surprises everywhere, most of them delightful, such as when a force-push spell allowed us to finish off six skeletons at once by flinging them against a wall, and ultimately it's far more satisfying than you may expect from combat in a title that has so many other items on its agenda.

Also, it's technically possible to own every building in the game. In theory. Might wait for some confirmation on this from the final build.
There are a good few other things you can learn about what will be in this, Wikipedia as always providing a good starting point
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fable_2Will I be let down again?
Well that depends on your expectations. Lots was promised for Fable, and those who went in with high hopes were let down. Those who didn't generally seemed to enjoy the game. What can we expect from Fable 2? Well it seems that Peter Molyneux has, to a degree at least, learned his lesson. To the best of my knowledge he has only talked about features that are confirmed to be in the game, and kept more quiet about all the things he'd like to see but can't fit in. In short, he seems less keen to promise the world and deliver a globe. With the game finished and shipping in a couple of months, you can assume that everything being shown and discussed in previews and events now is confirmed and in the game. Both
Eurogamer and
1UP had genuinely positive impressions of the game, with clear optimism for its release. Will it be everything you could ever hope for? Well that depends on you, really. What is being shown off looks really good and the game is said to be a polished product, rather than something hastily shoved out the door to meet its release date. Until we get to play it, that's all you can really ask.
And now, pictures!
All shrunk a little to help file sizes.

Dear Customer,
We have just been informed by Microsoft this afternoon that there is a significant supply chain issue regarding the contents of the Fable II Limited Edition. This affects the entire market.
They have advised us that neither the figurine nor the fate cards are going to be available. Which is incredibly frustrating!
However the Limited Edition WILL still come with a bonus disk with all Lionhead developer diaries, concept art viewer, music from soundtrack and new behind the scenes making of video footage, as well as bonus in-game content.
We have lowered the price of the limited edition to £39.99 to reflect the altered contents. I do hope this goes some way to alleviating your disappointment.
Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Kind regards,

Day one purchase.
...
No, I'm serious.
That and you really had to try to be evil. Hopefully they make it easier to do.
This one is looking good though I hope they haven't wasted too much time on multiplayer when they could have spent that time making the main game as good as possible.
Definitely interested, will have to wait for the PC port though.
EDIT: And I hope the story is a little better as the conclusion to the first wasn't very involving and the choice between the sword and the other thing was only made in favour of hte other thing because I'm not a dick and because you can get a better sword later.
I actually quite liked The Lost Chapters when I got around to playing it, although perhaps that had something to do with everyone talking it down prior to my bargain-bin discovery.
My one dream is finally within reach. To be impregnated by every possible male in order to raise my own army of mini-mes.
...crap did I think that last part or type it?
Wikipedia at least says that the dog morphs to suit your alignment. Whether that means the breed changes as you go, or whether there's different breeds and those morph, I don't know.

On the story, I accept that this anecdote sounds completely overblown and stuff, but still thought it was pretty cool
I obviously doubt it'll be "the most incredible game" I've ever played, but it should say something of the possible quality.
Eh, I'll believe that when I see it. I just want it to be interesting nad have a lot of characters you can interact with and see change like Thunder's daughter.
- The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (2017, colorized)
Do we have a hard release date yet, or is just 'October'?
They should just get the guy who did Medal of Honor Allied Assault for this game. Too late now, but dude is money. Some of the best FPS music ever in my opinion.
Fable one may have been a tad basic in areas but making people peg it out of their houses and to then chase them down and blam them with my giant hammer more than made up for it

The Eurogamer preview kinda talked about both. So there's the 'breadcrumbs' thing for you to follow that will help lead you to your goal (but you can obviously ignore if you want), whereas the dog will be leading you off exploring places instead. To me, this actually sounds just fine since it means you can go off exploring without worrying about getting lost. Just decide which one to follow, really.

Also, great OP man. :^:
The E3 walkthrough where he injured his dog and runs away from it, leaving it to hobble after him made me care about this game 100% then I had done. Im gona spoil mine and play games with it and be the best goddamn dog owner ever
Ooh, what alignment do I have to be to get a corgi?
Or a Jack Russel, I like those.
Regal.
I had only seen the combat video that Peter had narrated some months ago, and it was passable.
This, however, looks fantastic. I'm now 100% sold on this game. The story could be absolute bullocks at this point and I wouldn't even care. Finally, a co-op Action RPG that my friend and I can really get behind.
Corgi dog for a seven foot tall righteous paladin in gleaming white armor?
Best idea ever.
First play through lovable sword-swinging idiot, second play through evil dog-abusing magic bastard.
Any game that has co-op is a must buy for me. Hopefully more companies get the hint that people like co-op too!
The dog is a bloody brilliant idea, I must say. I'm the sort of sissy prick who will probably cry at its inevitable death.
edit: What's up with the breadcrumbs? They couldn't make it more any worse if they had an arrow over your head where to go. Perhaps there is a way to turn it off?
WALK THIS WAY YOU RETARD DURRRR

Goddamn I wish this was still in the game.
Being evil was much easier than being good, I hated trying to be good, it made the game harder and it wasnt fun, plus, all you get are retarded butterflies that fly around you and a halo you can barely even see if you stop moving, when evil you grow awesome horns, you cant deny that!
But yeah, I tried being good once...it didnt work, although I HAVE completed the game as evil like 6 times.
As short as Fable was it was an amazing game. And the expansion "Lost Chapters" was a nice addition.
I dunno, I wouldn't be bothered to go and 'farm' some extra lives.
Ah but when almost every enemy gave +good points, I thought that it made it harder to level up a bit while also being evil. The alternative was grinding on guards, but then that freaked out villagers for the rest of that play through.
