AVG Unending Restart

When I try to update AVG (the free anti-virus program) it says that I need to restart my computer in order to update the program.

So I restart it.

Then I start the program up again.

Then I click 'update', because it's telling me it's out of date still.

Then I get the "Please restart your computer in order to update," thing again.

I restart it.

Repeat ad nauseum

Try this. Go into Tools -> Advanced Settings -> Update.

If you've got it set on "Update immediately", then switch it to "Update upon next computer restart", and vice versa. That's what fixed it for me - after I let it sit with the new setting for a day or two, I restored my original settings, and I haven't had a problem since.

Edit: this is with the free version of 8.
Also, if that doesn't work, try completely removing and reinstalling it. When I was researching my problem, some people had to resort to that.
