Space, the final (media storage) frontier.

So after reading an article about the 80g PS3 recently I started to wonder. Do people really need that much space? Hell, do people even use that much space?
I'll admit to not owning a PS3, just a 20g 360. Even with it though, I've downloaded the Halo maps, and tons of Rock Band songs, but I'm still no where near hitting any kind of cap.
Of course, on the other end of the spectrum is the Wii. Everytime I buy a new game I have to delete a VC title so I have room for a save file.
So while 20g seems plenty, whatever the Wii is sporting isn't working for me, but to imagine a system with 80g or the Elite's 120g, is anyone actually using a majority of that?
Maybe I'm just not a media console kinda guy, and these things are targetted at someone else?
A lot of people put music and movies on their consoles, which take up space really fast. Plus there's DLC. Another factor might simply be that you don't need to worry about space when you have so much. I went from a 40G HDD to a 120G HDD and I don't feel nearly as restricted, even though I'm not going to put 120G of data on it.

I mean I know it's different on a PC.
But I'm at 1/3 my 1.5 TB on my computer.
PS3s, since they have HDDs in every one, have the option for games to require an install. Also, how many times do you buy games from XBLA? I know the main thing holding me back from getting more stuff from PSN for my PSP is storage.
My 60 gig PS3 has 31 gigs used up. Installs for MGS4, DMC4, Ninja Gaiden Sigma (not necessary) plus a couple others. Several PSN games. A couple Family guy episodes. Extra content for games.
It's really not as much as it sounds.

Alright then, I suppose my inquiry is answered. I had totally forgotten about the PS3 installs that certain games are doing.
I still wonder about the 360 elite, but thats obviously targetted for a specific group of people anyway.
I'm glad that the Xbox 360 will soon have the feature to install games to play them from the hard drive. The Elite suddenly sounds, well, reasonable.
I just wish we'd have been able to replace the hard drive ourselves, instead of this proprietary-connector BS. Guess it's far too late for that, though.
I downloaded the E3 presentations of the USA PSN the other night, that was about 4.5gb there. Ok I'm not going to keep it but it's handy to have the space. Demos are usually in the 1gb region, game installs in the 3gb region and downloadable PSN titles between 1gb and 4gb. It soon adds up. What with there being a lot of HD video content nowadays (even if you're not a media person I imagine you're interested in Game trailers) these can soon rack up the space.
The 360 20gb is looking a bit small if you wanted to download even one of the Xbox Originals, there's the coming option in the new dashboard to copy parts of the disc to the harddrive for faster access and the dashboard itself on the 360 takes up a lot of the usable space (I think I have about 9gb left, have one demo on my 360 and a handful of small XBLA games).
I'm just glad the homebrew scene is coming along nicely for the Wii, USB removable storage is only around the corner and the newest exploit allows you to use the most up to date firmware so I can still buy awesome awesome games like Lost Winds (there's a game that proves you don't need masses of storage, it's lovely and only 40mb)
I just got a 120 gig harddrive for my Xbox off of eBay for $80. I always have space issues on my 20 gig, but my brother never does.
I have a ton of game saves, demos, and videos that I tend not to delete regularly. With the option to install games coming up, I figured it was time to bite the bullet and upgrade.
One of the things I love about the PS3 is that you can copy media files to it. That means I can plug in a flash drive or external HDD and copy files right to the system. I have a couple of seasons of The Office and IT Crowd on my PS3, and that's probably what's chewing up the most space. (Granted, I could still plug the drive into my 360 and watch them there, but it's pretty convienant to just turn the system on and go to Videos and watch something without having to plug anything in.)

How does the PSN > PSP stuff work that its a storage issue? Or are you talking about the PSP memory stick?
