I have an 80 gig Classic iPod, I posted this problem on iLounge, and it isn't the place it used to be.
This only happens on certain songs, but it's always at a specific point in the song. I will be playing a track and suddenly it skips to the next one. For instance, I could be playing Track 03 and once it reaches 1:08 it skips to Track 04. Or I could be playing Track 07 and then at 0:02 it skips to Track 08. If I manually drag the seeking bar past the skip point in the song, it could play part of the song then skip at another specific time on the song - something I've been able to replicate over and over.
It's only happening on one album. I've played the CD in iTunes, in my car, and most importantly, played the songs in the iTunes library that don't work on my iPod in iTunes. It's all flawless except on my iPod playback. I've checked the "info" tab to make sure the songs are not set to stop at any point before the song is over. I figured maybe there was a problem when it was being transferred to the iPod, so I restored the iPod but that didn't work fix it, either.
I've seen this problem before back in 2003 and 2004, but never on the new classic models. What do I do?
I bought an 80 gig Classic IPod last month, and the thing has been a fucking pain. I have a similar problem to yours...when I run with the Ipod, it occasionally stops playing whatever song it's on. I try to skip ahead to the next song and start it playing again, but at this point it usually hangs up. Sometimes after cycling songs and repeatedly pressing play it recovers. Sometimes I have to shut it off and turn it back on. I did some looking into this on the Internet, and by and large the impression I was getting is that the most recent generation Ipods are in general touchy, buggy pieces of shit. This may not be your file...it may just be the Ipod expressing its quirks. I owned the previous generation for quite some time before I lost it, and never saw this problem. You may just have to put up with it.
Oh, and the new one has some weird interface quirks that occasionally require a restart when it's working with my Scion tC interface. Very annoying.
