SE++ Zombie Master Thread: Thriller dancing optional.

What is it?
Zombie Master is a multiplayer Half-Life 2 modification, centred around a zombie-apocalypse, which throws all but one player in the shoes of human survivors. Pitched against a relentless tide of rotting flesh, they must scavenge for weaponry and equipment just to stay alive. But that one player, chosen randomly at the beginning of the round, is not bound by mortal restraints.

To speak his name is to invite the wrath of hell - but most call him the 'Zombie Master'. He is nigh omnipotent. His invisible hand controls the legions of undead like puppets on strings; slowly closing the net on the humans while they run to and fro like rats in a maze.

Why should I play?
It's free! Other than that, however, it is a truly fun game. We have a small group of SE++ people that play together, we don't have our own server, but we have favorites. Playing with people you know is always fun, and you get to hear some people scream like girls. Myself included. Anyone that enjoys things zombie-related will find some fun in this game, and for something free (assuming you already have HL2) you haven't much to lose.... EXCEPT YOUR LIFE.

I'm sold, tell me more!
Each map has it's own set objectives, like build a car to escape or get through the map alive while doing other random tasks while being pelted with undead. You can use objects to barricade yourselves into a room while trying to complete an objective, since zombies can only be spawned in certain places you can create safe zones. However, be prepared for the undead to get upset at your attempts and throw chairs and other objects at you. If you die, you do not respawn - you have to wait until the next round. However, you can still enjoy watching your teammates fight for their lives after you've died.

Zombie Masters will range from the fair and just to the absolutely power hungry. They can set unseen traps for you to fall into, in addition to raising the undead. For each person you kill with your horde, you gain more resources, allowing you to spawn more. You can also trigger catastrophic events (lightening, explosions), but those cost a lot of resources. Pro Tip: Your default name in-game is 'Tony Swan', if you don't want to look like a butt just change it in the options menu. It is not attached to your chosen name in Steam, so you need to change it separately.

Types of Zombies

Shamblers: Your standard zombie. Slow moving but hard hitting, can be easy to avoid.


Banshees: Freaky monkey-jumping assholes. Very quick.


Hulks: Ammo wasters, these things take forever to die. You're better off finding a fuel barrel to explode it.


Drifters: Affectionately called babbies. Only want to be loved.

So download it, patch up, and get goin'! There are quite a few maps, and to be fair I'm new to the game so I'm unsure of how many there are and how many are regularly used, but you may find it helpful to download a Map Pack so you don't have ridiculous wait times. Some can be found here and here, and I'm sure Google will help you find more. Extract the maps you do find into the zombie_master -> maps folder to your SourceMods folder.

Currently our favorite server is the Zombie-Master Dedicated Server [RTD/RTV], and to add it to your favorites you can use the IP address 98.166.120.56:27015
* Typing 'rtd' or Roll the Dice will make something random happen. Maybe you will get ammo and a gun, or you'll explode, or you'll go down to 1 HP, etc.
* Typing 'rtv' will vote for the next map, which requires some amount of people to do so before an actual map is selected.
Not all servers have these two options, but this one does, so they are clarified here. It maxes out at 16 players.

Disclaimer: I am still very new to this game, so if you have cool things to add or whatever do it! DO IT!

If you have any technical issues, feel free to ask but to be honest I personally know nothing about them. You might find the Bugs Forum in the Zombie Master forums helpful to you, and you can also post there if you want.

Trust me, I scream like, a lot. Also I hate maps that are dark and require a flashlight.. you're just walking and you hear gurgling and you're like OH FUCK THERE'S LIKE SEVEN OF THEM.

There aren't any requirements I can find, but I'm pretty sure you just need Half Life 2: Episode 1 as the bare minimum. That's all I have and I don't have any issues. Someone who has played more than a day like I have can help me out there.

Nah the ZM can totally control the zombies.

They're just like units in an RTS. You can set ambush points, put them on attack, put them on defense, move them around.

I dunno what's wrong. Keep in mind I'm not on my own computer right now, but when I tried playing Synergy with some others, the game would freeze during loading and would require a hard reboot because I couldn't alt-tab. Anyone else have this problem?
