So Microsoft has that whole game creation for the 360 thing going on and it got me into messing with XNA again. However, while I already have all the software needed for a programming environment, I dont have any artistic software besides Fruitloops, and that doesnt make pictures.
So what I need from you good people are software reccomdations for the making of sprites both static and animated.
Price really isnt an issue as functionality is my only priority .
Actual companies use programs like Photoshop or Illustrator to create the art, and then they pull the images together in your choice of animated file program. Any editing software can pull image sequences in and output a .gif or movie file.

What kinda software would fit the bill of animated file program?
Or you could use it with Windows with the GTK toolkit.
But that is silly.
Why would you use windows? I only use it for some games, and at work, which they won't let me install linux on the computer. Since the IT guys don't know how to use it....

I personally like Paint.NET. Inkscape is vector graphics, and thus may or may not be suitable for the OP, but it's also pretty spiffy.
Yeah, it's vector, but I like using it, and can get some good stuff out of it.
