Right now I've got my hands full on Wipeout Pure and FFT: The War of the Lions (I know, still at the first chapter and I have like 60 more hours to go) but I am looking for a puzzle game to play after I'm done with Wipeout (which is great by the way). I've heard that Lumines 2]/u] and Crush were good but I don't know if I really want to buy a time-sensitive game. Can anyone help recommend some good puzzle games, time sensitive or not? [just label whether or not time is a factor in the game, even though I think most puzzle games are]
Lumines. It's the only thing I miss that I had when I had a PSP. Although I have the PS2 version it's just not as good, and not as easy to pick up and play.
Gamestop and Amazon are both selling Lumines for a lot more than Lumines 2. Is it really worth the extra dough, or is there such a subtle difference that it doesn't matter? I will look into Puzzle Quest, but how come no one has mentioned any of the other puzzle games for the PSP? Are they just not nearly as good?

Lumines used to be $15 at my Gamestop. Then someone figured out how to hack the current firmware with Lumines and we sold out of every copy in 50 miles in a week. Then the price went up to $35.
Lumines is good, but doesn't really have much depth to it. It's a falling block puzzle (a la Tetris) with hypnotic music and visuals. Puzzle Quest is excellent, it's a full-on RPG that uses Bejeweled as a combat system.

No PSP collection is worth much without Lumines 1. It has been the system's raison d'etre since day 1.
Wasn't there something wrong with the PSP version of Puzzle Quest? Controls-wise or something? Or was that the DS version I'm thinking of? People always seem to be recommending one over the other, but I don't remember which.
Also, is there a reason the sequel to Puzzle Quest (Galactrix) is not coming to the PSP (according to Wikipedia)?
I'm looking into Lumines 2 because I'm not looking into a full-blown RPG for a puzzle game. Can anyone describe any major differences between Lumines and it's sequel? Is it really so much as to make it a complete different experience?

There's a glitch in the PSP Puzzle Quest that stops you from using your allie's abilities. It's not game breaking though.

Well, Lumines 1 is brilliant in every way down to the last detail, so they decided to make a sequel. But instead, they released the same game a 2nd time, only with terrible licensed music, and ruined the entire fucking game for everyone with working ears.
And how distracting are the background images of Lumines 2? Usually when I play PSP games I'm at home so I can sub the audio for my music (if it works with that game).
Dude, quit being so stubborn and just get Lumines 1. Every single person here is recommending it yet you still aren't listening. Lumines 1 is an amazing piece of art and a timeless classic. Lumines 2 really pales by comparison. Lumines 2 is to Lumines 1 what Warrior Within was to Sands of Time.
Yes, very much. It's not necessarily easy to play at an elite level, balancing skills and equipment and stats and all that. But, basically the game play is match gems, gather mana, fireball a skeleton in the fucking face.

I've played Lumines 1 through Plus, and I think Lumines 2 is a worthy successor. Some of the licensed music is good(I emphasize some), and there's a ridiculous amount of unlockables.

Puzzle Quest IS easy to pick up and play. While you can play the game in a manner such that it eats your life away, you can also play more casually and just pick it up every now and again (this is what I've been doing since I originally beat it.) However you might consider getting it for something other than PSP... as someone already mentioned, there's a glitch in the PSP version that isn't major, but still brings the game down a little bit. And if you've got a 360, the XBLA version also has online play and an expansion.
As for Lumines 2, I found the moving backgrounds distracting. Especially the music videos, which were just horrific and painful to play. I enjoyed Lumines 2 but 1 is so much better. The original is just one of the all-around best puzzle games.
Crush is also one of my favorite puzzle games of recent years. It isn't time-sensitive. There are some levels in the game with a couple time-sensitive bits, but the game doesn't have a time limit.
Exit is also good and probably cheap these days.
Echochrome is good too. I just got it, and I believe there's a time limit that the game doesn't actually tell you about which is irritating. You can get it downloadable for cheap or you can import the European UMD which has a ton more levels and two added game modes.
Also if you're into imports, there's I.Q. Mania which is a compilation of the PS1 and PS2 I.Q. games (the PS2 ones were never released here.) And even though it's a Japanese game, all the menus and stuff are in English.
psh! It's good. As long as you treat it like a puzzle game and don't expect fluid platforming.
And like sadomasochism. Worst controls ever, for example. And the gameplay really isn't that great either. With so many awesome games to play these days (i.e. time to play games is a valuable commodity), why waste time on Exit? Have you no dignity and selfrespect?
Should I get Puzzle Quest for the PSP or for the Xbox 360? It seems like the game is especially well-suited to a handheld, but the 360 version has bugfixes, an expansion, and sweet sweet achievements....
Crush isn't really time sensitive. (Might hurt your score but not sure) and Downstream is kinda time sensitive but the levels are usually really short so its not really an issue.. (Lots of trial and error usually) The music gets annoying but other than that its pretty fun.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

Depends on if you care to have it portable. If you'll play it at home all the time, get the 360 version. If you need it portable, get the PSP version. I played the crap out of the PSP version (and I have the 360 version) and, trust me, the bug everyone is mentioning is not even worth mentioning. You eventually get so powerful that your companion's powers would only be a drop in the bucket anyway.
I'll mention it here, apparently there's a bug that can corrupt saves that is related to learning skills from enemies in the PSP version of puzzle quest, has anyone had any trouble with that happening?

Lumines
also, in a way Disgaea is sort of like a large strategy "puzzle" that goes on forever.
Echochrome is cool although very short.
Hell, I thought this was specifically a thread about Puzzle Quest
- the best PSP puzzle game
- the best PSP game period
- the best puzzle game of all time period
Get it now. The first one, Lumines 2 is not nearly as good (but still enjoyable if you liked the first).
Puzzle Quest...
edit- I've never played a PSP Lumines; but, I played it on the 360 Arcade and thoroughly enjoyed it, as well.

I thought this was a remake of Intelligent Cube for the PSP and got very excited.

The European UMD version of Echochrome has around 300 levels, so that's probably the version to go for if you can.
And some other games.
But also Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo!
Edit: May or may not be the best puzzle game. But no one was mentioning it at all.

It is coming to the PSP. In fact about the only system its NOT coming to is the PS3.

Puzzle Quest is closer to the mark.
