I have enough extra cash to buy one game for my DS. I've narrowed it down to either the FFIV remake, or else FF Tactics A2. I can't really decide between the 2 of them. I played FFIV back when it was on the SNES and really enjoyed it, but I'm concerned I'm shelling out cash for something I've already played. As far as the tactics game, I'm not really huge into strategy games, but I did try a turn based strategy game (gemfire, specifically) awhile ago and enjoyed it. So, I'd be getting my toe wet into a new genre, but it might turn out I'm not really a fan after (I hated starcraft, for the record, too much micromanagement).
Personally, I would go for IV, I've heard very good things about it so far, and intend to buy it myself sometime.
I can't stand the Tactics games, I tried the one you mentioned, and it has the same problems as all the others - painfully slow, repetitive, and though I didn't get far in it, apparently there is very little story involvement or character development, so you're basically just battling.

FFTA2 is fun enough, but is more or less devoid of any sort of plot line. FFIV is pretty much the same game, but has enough tweaks to keep most people happy (New graphics, if you like them, bastard hard at times, and a new augment system that lets you customize your dudes a bit)
Personally I more or less forgot I owned A2 once I got FFIV.
A2 is nothing like StarCraft, not even close. Completely different genres. FFIV is the same game you played before (and can get for "free" these days if you're mildly clever) only with 3D graphics and increased difficulty. If you're not sure about the turn-based strategy genre, Final Fantasy Tactics (any of them) are pretty much the best of the genre, so they're a good place to start.
Watch gameplay footage and decide which one looks more appealing to you, then get that one. At least both of them are new enough to have decent trade-in value, should you regret your choice.
