All,
I'm in the process of completing the first draft of my first book in the next few and need some input and guidance on the next steps to take... any nudges in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Here's the deal: the book is for children (~7-12ish) and their parents and deals with accepting personal responsibility, personal motivation, building character, learning to control your future, and a few others things woven into the story of how a kitty was rescued from the street and brought from a very negative situation into a much more positive one, and the challenge she faces learning a new way to approach life.
The book itself is a springboard to an online community that developed the theme of the book more deeply for child and parents in two different areas, with free content and paid-subscription access to more information.
Here's where I need help:
1) Ensuring that I own the rights to my title for the book. I know I need to talk to a lawyer but at $$$ per hour, I want to make sure I don't waste time or money. So I need to know the intelligent questions to ask. I'm searching on-line for more information at the moment but I thought I'd ask here too, in case anyone has done something similar.
2) Looking for programmers / developers to create flash games for children, similar to bejeweled and the like. If anyone's interested, you can check my profile and email me or leave a note here. And that leads to...
3) Looking for artists with a youthful and dynamic style of artwork. I am a very big fan of Penny Arcade's art but I don't really anticipate Gabe being available for this project. I plan to do a coloring book and such so I'll need an artist. Depending on level of involvement on the part of the artist, I'm willing to pay a straight fee-for-work or pay a % of revenue on all projects.
4) What other kinds of help should I be asking for? I have a few authors, editors and critics lined up local to me and a few media contacts and people who's work I respect that will be receiving advanced copies for feedback, testimonials, and as a way to say thank you for their inspiration. Other than that... any other input / advise is welcome.
Finally, I'm looking to complete and launch the book before September as an e-book and self-published title before trying to find an off-line, "real" publisher. Any advise on that front is appreciated, too.
Sincerely,
Jeremy R.

Unless you have some sort of capital ready to invest in these sorts of interactive web sites and games (which I assume you don't since you are only on the first draft), then you will be in for a rude awakening.
The odds of you finding competent Flash programmers that will work for free are somewhere extremely near zero.
If you want to actually pull this off you probably need to go to your publisher and/or some other larger publishers and pitch your complete online idea. It *sounds* like a neat idea, and if you can pitch it correctly to a publisher then they will foot the bill for it (although the rights to the book may be negotiated ).
I'd say your biggest problem at this juncture is that you want to to a medium-large budget project on a small/non-existent budget and your 7-12 year old demographic book is NOT about witches, goblins, or elves.
we also talk about other random shit and clown upon each other
I'd be cautious of that. I'm not sure if any decent publisher will touch your book if it's previously been released. Publishing isn't really my forte, but I'd agree with Jasconius that trying to find a publisher or investor to bankroll the project first and foremost is probably the best idea. If no one will touch it and you still want to go for it, then you start to consider whether you want to and can bankroll it yourself.
