I got an email from my IT department today telling me that I have to remove winamp. I am looking to replace it with a similar mp3 program with one specific feature; the program needs to always stay on top of other programs and take the very least amount of desktop space possible. Winamp had some skins with a "window blind" mode...that would still keep a decent amount of functionality while being thinner than the bar on top containing close, minimize, etc. I am looking for exactly that.
is there some reason you have to remove it? cause replacing one 3rd party program with another will probably just make them pissy. which might mean you're stuck with wmp
It's possible that the program I replace Winamp with will also be something I'm not allowed to use at work, but if that is the case they will notify me. Unfortunately we just got bought out and there is no place I can go for a list of approved software.

perhaps ask the IT department for an approved Mp3 player?

Best option.
But, what I'm thinking is that if your company just got bought out, what's likely gonna happen is that your computer polices, are gonna become a lot more restrictive, and *any* third party software might suddenly not be allowed anymore.
I appreciate the advice so far. I have placed an email to our IT department to see what is approved, but in the mean time I was hoping to get some suggestions for a decent MP3 player that uses minimal desktop room. If I have to remove it in a week or two I am ok with that, I just need some music while I work.
I'm a fan of Foobar2000 when I'm using Windows, but I don't think it has an always-on-top feature.
It does, but I don't think the "window blind" feature the OP is looking for is available without downloading some skins.
I'll give Foobar2000 a shot and see what it offers. I should have mentioned in the OP that the window blind feature was from a skin, and is not a native feature of Winamp from what I know. I'll see if Foobar2000 has a similar skin...if you know of one I would appreciate the name. Again, thanks for the suggestions.

Prepare for that.
Can't control it as much, but they might not care so much because it's just a website.

It is native to WinAmp, every classic skin should be able to do it.
