I live in a small town in the South. For several years now, a restaurant called Cafe Risque operated in the area. All I know about it is that it catered to truckers and the waitresses were topless save for stickers over their nipples. Also, practically the entire population of the town was outraged by its existence. Shortly after it opened a wooden cross was erected within 200 yards of the restaurant.
The city government caught wind that the owner was looking to sell the Cafe. Knowing that the owner would refuse to sell to the city, the city government paid a man to buy the restaurant for them, lying about his intentions.
Yesterday it was closed and the signs were torn down and burnt in a bonfire. Hundreds of people came to watch the signs burn, and every nearby parking lot was full. Bulldozers were parked in front of the building to block people from getting near it, probably to keep anyone from trying to burn it down, too.

Well, I learned the other day as I was browsing wikipedia out of boredom, that my current town of residence (where I've lived for 11 years now) is where Rodney Dangerfield was born and raised. Its also where John Quincy Adams came to kick it during the summer. They turned the land his estate was on into a school in his name.
But as for current events, there's a little carnival in the local Catholic church's parking lot that starts this evening. There's also a Tanger outlet being built on my street, but all the way at the other end of it, called the Arches. And there were a bunch of protestors of that because they were afraid of traffic ballooning up. Lol traffic in New York.
my hometown used to be one of the nation's major centers of industry, education and culture under the soviet union but has gone to shit since then like most places in russia

The offices and homes of the county commissioner and county auditor were raided by the FBI two days ago. Bribery from 3 contractors are believed to be the reason.
My hometown is slowly collapsing and emptying thanks to automaker layoffs other general unemployment
On the upside my current place of residence just replaced the crumbling section of train bridge so I don't have to worry about falling into the river when riding Amtrak

there are pretty cool pictures of what happened to the place I was born
A man named Obama came to where I live also and didn't take the time of day to actually talk to any of the populice other than staged questions and planned sucking up. I was very disapointed.
The place I grew up was in Minnesota. It was cool as shit. Woods everywhere. Nerf fights and catching snakes and hockey and football and watergun wars and ice hockey and snow everywhere and snow forts and street luge

My home is having it's Natal Day celebration this weekend. All that means is they have a little pageant ceremony to elect a new "Princess" to represent the town next year for a pageant further north. That and a bunch of old folks dress up in old British uniforms and camp out for a couple of nights at the historical fort.
I miss the little canteen that they had there though. Damn good hamburgers.

My hometown got covered in ash from a volcano once. Had to walk to school wearing an mask for like a week.
I lived in Long Lake, Plymouth, and Watertown.
