Hey guys. I'm trying to download and open/print this entry form that I need to bring with me to band practice tonight but it's not working. I can't get word to open it, even after it downloads a converter and asks me to "pick which encoding makes my file readable" (none of them make it readable).
I don't know if it's something I'm missing or if the download itself is fucked up. Any chance anybody might be willing to take a look at it and see if you can catch something I'm now?
What version of Word are you using? I've run into issues where the file I need to open was made in a newer version of word and the other person was using an older version. So far I haven't found a way to get around that problem yet.
I have word 2007 and I can't open that file. Also it's 512 bytes, which is REALLY small to be a legit Word file.
Actually, looking at it as a raw binary the file is totally truncated, there's nothing there. The header is basically empty and the body doesn't exist.

You have to specifically save it as "Word 2000/2003" or earlier in order to get it to work. I found the Word 6.0 format works the best for everyone. That said, RTF seems to be even better, although less features.

not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me
I think the problem is that document. Doesn't open on my PC. I'll check on 2007 as well but I've got the compatibility pack installed and that's served us well so far.

I ask because this happens quite a bit when someone gives you a Word 2007 file and you only have Word 2003. We get it all the time.
