PS1 game on PS2 with component cables

So I was hoping to finally finish Final Fantasy Tactics, so I was all ready to break out the game and start playing, but it's not working right, I'm guessing because I'm using component cables instead of composite. The ps2 starts up fine, and it even displays the big playstation 1 logo fine, but after that, the signal just cuts out. The music plays in the background, so I know the game is running, just no video signal.

I was hoping to play this on the projector with the nice crisp component graphics, if I can't get this to work it'll have to be relegated to the small crappy tv. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it hopeless? Is there a solution?
