Ok, its birthday time and I'm looking to upgrade my MP3 player. I'm keeping it cheap because its from my parents and I do NOT want IPods, I don't like them, I don't understand the appeal so please don't suggest those.
Basically I am down to these two.
Sony NWZ VS.
Samsung T10
And here's some reviews.

There's also the next model up of the Sony one, the A20 series but it doesn't seem to do much extra except have blutooth and come with a wireless headset. Plus thats £110 at the minimum.
I can get the Samsung one for £84 so its not too much more expensive than the Sony A10.
The reviews say they're both pretty good. The Samsung has more features and I do like the radio capability while the Sony one apparently has amazing sound quality. Both have nice interfaces and nice body work but the review seems to indicate that the radio reception of the Samsung isn't brilliant. I like the Touch screen effect to but its not essential.
They're both 8GB as I want to upgrade from ym 2GB. So 8GB is essential.
They're both good MP3 players from my POV though they offer different things but essentially the difference I'm paying would be for the touch screen and radio and the flash interface, plus I guess bluetooth but I'm not really concerned with that.
So can anyone give me some learned advice on which would be worth getting?
Note: I doubt hte sound quality is hugely different between either and any wired headphones will be replaced by my Skull Candy ones.

Oh, and just go with new Skull Candy 'phones - pure silk!
Oh, right. From a purely word of mouth perspective, I have also heard good things about Zunes. I personally think they're fugly and would prefer to get something that doesn't support DRM'ed music at all, but you could do worse than a Zune.
Also, the old Zunes are probably going for pretty cheep.

The Sansa Clip is extremely small, has a nice high-contrast OLED text display, is easy to navigate, and does a nice job auto-building a database when you copy files onto it.

Anyway after some struggle I went with the Samesung T-10. My biggest draw back was the 50% reduction in video playtime compared to the Sony A80 but then I realised that I won't really be watching videos on it anyway so its not particularly a huge concern and I like the radio feature. Just hope it works well.
Just wish it has Sony's battery.
Thanks for the advice guys.
Anyway, I'm the same as DW in that I only want a flash based player. I saw the 16gb creative zens at ~$130 all over the place last weekend. Ready to buy I log on today to find the prices have jumped up to $160+. Places like froogle and pricewatch still have the $130 prices! I missed it by that much.
So i'm back to square one. I like the Samsung P2, the creative zen (which the 8gb is still a steal - and the 16 gb too i guess) zune 4gb (which is insanely cheap ant $108 at amazon) or ipod nano...
most of these items are either discontinued or about to be discontinued tho so i hold out for better prices.
Sandisk Sansas.
One thing I am shocked by is how much better other players sound compared to my 2g Nano. Almost every other player I've tried sounds sooo much better than the ipod.
while i can vouch for their sound quality, the build quality is total shit.
eBay is your best friend. Love it.
