The Pineapple Express

It's getting decent reviews, and it's Judd Apatow and the usual crew, so I'm guessing I'll like this since I liked their other stuff.

I was driving to school earlier, and there was a 30 minutes interview with Seth Rogan on Fresh Air. Not all about the movie, but if you like the guy you'll like the interview.

Are you watching?

I'm probably going to see this movie just because I love Judd Apatow. It seems a bit less funny and more of just a straight-up stoner movie, but I'm entirely fine with that.

It's a stoner-action movie, I believe. And I'm definitely going to be checking it out.

I laughed out loud several times when I first watched the trailer. This does not happen often. And good stoner movies are hard to come by. But.... I've only seen The Dark Knight once. So its a toss up.

I don't think it's really going to be considered action. I mean, it's like a lot of those cheesy 80's movies where there's like explosions and shit flying around but no one's actually fighting. Probably a lot of scenes of the protagonists running from bullets and stuff, but no real fighting.

Well obviously. I know they'll be firing guns (badly), but It's not like I'm expecting "blood sport".

I will see something with him in it* even if he is all stonered out. He looks to be hilarious in this.

Is no one curious that this is a David Gordon Green movie? His films are fucking genius. But this sort of departure from the likes of George Washington, All the Real Girls and, Undertow seems rather odd. Apatow and Green seems a very unlikely writer / director duo. Maybe it's an homage to Cohen noir.

If nothing else, the film will be great to look at.

The red band trailer for this show is a lot better than the green band one (true with most movies, I suppose). Looks like it will be a great show!

It'll be just like Knocked Up and 40YOV where you expect it to be entirely juvenile with easy jokes that fall flat, but the comedy is actually quite mature given the content. And the ending will probably make me cry.

I usually wait for dvd for the non-spectacle kind of films, but the trailers for this have had me hooked since I first saw them. And I can't get Paper Planes out of my head whenever I hear it, so I may end up seeing this one in the theater as well.

The ending was convenient and the rest of the movie was shit.

It just wasn't funny. It was marketed as a rip-roaring comedy (which Superbad turned out to be) and it was just...this shitty romantic comedy with swearing. I was dissapointed and disgusted by it.

Same reason I didn't see Forgetting Sara Marshall, I felt it would be the same exact horseshit.

I fail to see how 40YOV was that much different.

Main love story plotline, zany sidekicks, sex jokes, swearing... Same with Superbad, except with high schoolers. Overarching theme of getting the girl, zany sidekicks, sex jokes, swearing...

I think it's weird someone could hate one of these movie and love another one - they're all very similar (and hilarious). Though of course people prefer one over another.

Pineapple Express at least should have some action in it which gives it a new dimension.

For one thing, you condensed the films into the vaguest plot descriptions possible, completely erasing the details in a way that would make it sound like American Pie and The 40 Year Old Virgin are the same movie and anyone who enjoyed the latter would go crazy for the former..

They're all Apatow films so I assumed people would know I was speaking in that context.

But realistically speaking rom coms of this sort do have very basic repetitive plot elements. It's the style of jokes and humor, and the actors in them, that sets them apart.

Also people that get upset when comedies have happy endings are weird. It's a comedy.

meh, 40yov, knocked up, and superbad were all decent comedies but I really don't think any of them are special at all. I won't call them garbage, any of them, and I'd argue they really are all very equal. They just aren't equal and amazing, they're equal and decent comedies. Honestly I don't ever see myself watching any of them again.

edit - oh I forgot my ultimate point! I'm extremely extremely excited about pineapple express. I know I like what all these guys can do, I know there's bits I like in the previous mentioned movies, and I know I loved freaks and geeks. and I really hope pineapple express is finally something I enjoy as much as I enjoyed that, albeit differently. I thought it was gonna be superbad but it wasn't. I'm highly hopeful for this.
