Possibility of seeing Clone Wars depending on reviews. If they have even 10% of the brilliance from the TV series I'm in like flint.

I'm up for the 3 big comedies of the summer. that being pineapple express, tropic thunder, and hamlet 2.

I haven't been excited for a comedy in a long time, but I'm certain that between these three movies I'll have a new comedy that really surprises me. or at least I'm hopeful. I'm also desperate. something actually relatively fresh would be grand.

Midnight Meat Train is being released only in dollar-type theaters due to a fiasco between Lions Gate and Barker.

I believe it will be hitting only about 100 screens throughout the US.

The novella is wonderful and the movie looks to be faithful.

Go see it, or Vinne Jones will brain ya.
    mmtpic2big.jpg

Now, Alexander Aja has been a mixed bag for movies so far. He's hit gold with The Hills Have Eyes remake, but struck out with P2, and only half pulled off High Tension. However, this movie seems to bring back the character development of Eyes and added supernatural horrors, which I am all for.

Not to mention that Keifer Sutherland has only been in good horror movies. (Lost Boys, Highway, Dark City - City is stretching it, but it had horror elements) and has been gushing about how much he liked the script and promising a good story to go along with the gore.

I hear that Mirrors is the creepiest movie of the Summer.
    00016192.jpg

I haven't heard much about the Hell movie. I'll check out some info when I get home from work

All in all, I am pretty psyched at all the great movies coming out this month and it seems to have a solid horror count.

The fickle nature of Lionsgate's treatment of The Midnight Meat Train's release should have prepared you for this.

Studio insiders confirmed for us this afternoon that Lionsgate is planning a limited 100 theater run of the Clive Barker adaptation on August 1st. An unceremonious release for Ryuhei Kitamura's stylish American directorial debut.

This move fulfills Lionsgate's contractual obligation with production entity Lakeshore to give it some sort of theatrical run. The plan is to subsequently release Meat Train quickly down the line (October?) for a DVD release. That's the word for now, however, we hear there is an effort to beef up the theater count on behalf of Lakeshore. Nothing is solid on that front.

The film stars Bradley Cooper, Brooke Shields, Vinnie Jones and Leslie Bibb. Screenwriter Jeff Buhler adapted Barker's Books of Blood entry.

You can read our early positive review here.
If you wish to see MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN in all its big screen glory at a THEATER near you, please do the following:

Cut and paste the message at the bottom of this post and e-mail it to:

    1) investor relations at Lionsgate: keasterling@lionsgate.com

    2) Lionsgate: general-inquiries@lionsgate.com

    3) call Lionsgate at (310) 449-9200 and express your desire to see MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN get the release it deserves.

BE POLITE AND PROFESSIONAL! We do not want to piss them off, just want them to know how many fans out there would like to shell out their hard earned cash to see the most groundbreaking horror film of the past ten years in a real movie theater!

HERE'S A SAMPLE MESSAGE FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE (or feel free to compose your own):

    Dear Lionsgate,

As a long time Clive Barker fan, I am writing you to express my strong desire to see "The Midnight Meat Train" on the big screen.

Rumors are currently circulating that the film will only be released on a limited basis and I am very concerned that I will miss my opportunity to see the most highly anticipated Clive Barker film in over a decade in all of its big screen glory!

There are millions of horror fans like myself who have been disappointed by the recent trend towards watered down PG-13 horror movies. Clive's work represents a return to serious, thought provoking horror movies and with Ryuhei Kitamura at the helm, I am even more excited to experience this collaboration, as it was intended: in a packed theater with hundreds of other horror fans like myself!

I urge you to please give this film the release it deserves!

    Many thanks,
    YOUR NAME

Damn, I didn't think it'd be this fucking hard to find a showing for Midnight Meat Train. What the hell is wrong with Lionsgate? They've been going downhill for years and now this just puts the final nail in the coffin for me.

However, Vinny Jones deserves my money, and I will travel across land, air, and sea to see this thing.

Edit: Also, forgot to add that Ryuhei Kitamura DEFINITELY deserves my money. I hope this doesn't dissuade him from making more movies here =/
