My personal experience is that potato vodka is a bit sweeter and gives you a much more tangible hangover than grain based vodka. I think brown liquor has a far wider range of flavors.

That is a tautology. Of course good vodka tastes different from bad vodka. The question is whether you get what you pay for vodka wise. I suppose the fact that I like bourbon and scotch more than vodka (except mixed) makes me a poor advocate for cheap vodka. I can say that Evan Williams (bum bourbon) is better than Jim Beam (mid range bourbon). I may just lack sophistication in the vodka portion of my brain. I'm better at whiskey and wine.

There's a Japanese linguist in my class actually. She says the spoken language itself is significantly easier due to lack of tones. However, then they have three different writing systems. Which is why the gummint puts it at just below Chinese.
