NEWS

To be filled in as it happens. There will definitely be press at the event, but they probably won't be covering the event "live" since there are no panels or stage events announced for the show at all. As far as we know, each batch of invitations cover a 3 hour block and you're free to enter anytime in that 3 hours. Like Square Enix's usual yearly party there will be trailers running in the theatre room covering the games listed below, while there will be demo stations for the games that have demos at the event. Any announcements or surprises if at all will likely just be in the form of trailers on the trailer reel. Once the first session of the event starts, I'll update the thread here with any news and pics that come out from the event, anyone else posting updates and news that's confirmed will also have that updated into the OP here.

Special Contents

For fans who bring along their PSPs, there will be special content downloads for Dissidia Final Fantasy at the Playstation Spot booths at the event. There are no details as to what these special contents are, but you'll need a PSP with the latest firmware version installed, and a memory stick with free space on it. The amount of space has not been specified either, so it is unlikely to be a demo, probably just wallpapers and themes.



The Party opens in VII hours! Get hyped!

duckroll has a front-row seat to the event, and he's likely going to be the first to spill the beans on whatever big revelations Square's going to unveil. I don't need to tell you that everyone has their hopes set on the FFVII Remake, if not a sequel. After all, Square has teased more than once that there would be a "shocking announcement" in this show, along with "throwing the ball back to Sony" after losing FFXIII's exclusivity.

So stay put, and witness a thread explosion of all caps excitement and GAF sexual fangasms ("all over my face", etc), or a meltdown of massive disappointment and exaggerated posts of depression ("Square sucks forever", "I hereby give up gaming", etc).

Here's what I expect to see in the show:

New characters revealed for Dissidia.

FFV DS announced.

Advent Children BLU release date and footage of new fight scenes.

FFXIII gameplay footage and/or demo release date.

FF Versus XIII's protagonist named and given dialogue.

What I hope to see in the show:

The new Dissidia characters revealed to be Cloud, Tifa, Kefka, and Celes (yes, Celes, not Terra. If I gotta choose one...)

FFV DS skipped over so they can show FFVI DS instead.

Advent Children BLU trailer showing new dialog scenes. There's enough fighting already.

FFXIII given a worldwide release date.

FF Versus XIII showing gameplay footage.

FFVII something. Anything. As long as it's on a next gen console.

No idea. All that was revealed was that the whole movie would be remastered for 1080p, certain details would be added (i.e. more dirt on clothing, more detailed blood and scratches on faces), along with extended footage, which includes an added conversation with Kadaj and the wheelchair person, machine guns mounted on the villains' bikes (something Nomura made a big deal about having to omit), and an overall longer and more intense fight with Cloud and you know who, including a new scene that's a direct homage to their first encounter in FFVII.

I'm still hoping for some new dialog scenes, new fight scenes for anyone other than Cloud, and (highly unlikely) a bonus OVA of the "On the way to a Smile" short stories, especially Case of Tifa. God that would be an awesome bonus, especially since it has the best writing out of the entire Compilation.

It'd be nice if Advent Children complete actually explains why Kadaj & co. kidnap the children, unless they were just being jerks.

I'd prefer FFVII's finale over a remake, and KH3 slightly between the two(my money's on a Wii version; how could it go anywhere else?).

And you know they'll do FFV DS first, just because. FFVI DS proper will take a while(at least it better).

Just got back, very glad about the PE PSP news. I hope the FFIV sequel finds its way into the DS or something while they're at it.

Before Crisis on the PSP or DS would be nice too, although they should've done that shit years ago.

Not going to happen. This event was organised by Nomura and his buddies, so the only games that'll be there are games he's involved in. Apparently he wasn't too happy waiting until October for the Tokyo Game Show.

Anyway, brilliant freaking news about PE3. It's funny how Square Enix is probably the PSP's biggest third party support nowadays when their support for it was pretty dismal in its first couple of years.

The addition of the FFXIII demo with FFVIIACC is encouraging but not surprising in the least. I wonder if they're going to bother including it with the US/PAL versions of the movie though... Probably not...

PE 2 was a piece of shit. It's not so much that it wasn't an RPG as it was that it removed the things that made PE unique gameplay-wise (the pausing combat sphere targeting thing, the RPG elements, etc).

It just felt like RE with magic powers.

- KH DS is "this winter" without the 2008, so maybe early 2009.
