Game recomendations for the 360?

Hey all. I just bought a 360 this week (I know, I'm late to the party) and I'm looking for some recomendations on what might be good to get.

Specifically, I'm looking for a good co-op game that I can play with my friend on the same console. I'm not big on console shooters, and most of the co-op games I've found are FPSes. Any advice?

On an unrelated note, I'm also looking for a game that I can really sink some time into with some mindless grinding/character advancement, something along the lines of a Diablo or something like that. Any ideas? I'll even take regular XBox games under advisement, although I'd rather have a 360 game so I can get the full use out of the hardware and look at some pretty pictures. :)

Thanks for the help!

Yeah, Geometry Wars 2 is great, I've been having a lot of fun with it since we got the 360, but I'm looking for something a little deeper. Also yeah, Ultimate Alliance would be great but I already got it for the Wii and kind of exhausted that avenue a long time ago. Thanks for the advice though, I'll look into the other two you mentioned!

Props on even having the ability to think about getting other games after playing Geometry Wars.

If you havent done Halo those are all co-op and fun to go through with friends.

I'll definitely check out Too Human. It's caught my eye before when I saw a preview for it. I'll download the demo tonight. Thanks!

    Dead Rising.

It's not co-op, granted, but it's awesome once you understand how it works. You could totally take turns with your friend or whatever, because you're certain to die a bunch.

But really, buy it. Because it's just that great.

The best thing to do when you get a new 360 is to go nuts and download every demo that sounds interesting. And maybe even some that don't, because it's not like you're paying to download them.

It's not multiplayer, but for the love of all that is good at least try Bioshock.

Except that it doesn't have local multiplayer, unfortunately.

Another game you might want to try is Stubbs the Zombie. It's an original Xbox game, but it has 2-player splitscreen co-op. I haven't tried the co-op, but the single player game is fun.

seriously, I like Crackdown as much as the next chap, but GTA4 just trumps it in every way (other than no super punching/jumping.)

I suppose if you are starting fresh then go for Crackdown first, but play GTA4 after, it's got progression dammit!

    also, Rock Band.

If co-op is a big selling point for him, I'd recommend Crackdown over GTA IV. GTA is super fun, but Crackdown, with the crazy powers and superhero-like abilities, makes for some INSANE co-op.

I'd echo the Virtua Tennis recommendation, too. I'm not even a tennis fan and that series is just awesome fun when you play with other people.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I'm looking for some advice for the 360 as well. I'm specifically interested in the stuff available on Xbox Originals. The only title on there I've played was Crimson Skies, which was super awesome and I beat in one sitting, and Halo which I played through on PC.

Basically I like all types of games, I'm just wondering which of these titles is really worth 15$ and the space on my harddrive.

Ninja Gaiden Black, Jade Empire, Fable, and Splinter Cell all caught my eye. Any suggestions?

Also, I'd be open to 360 games that were on the low-low, maybe 20$ or less as well.

Crackdown doesn't have local co-op either.

Outside of shooters and sports games, I can't think of a whole lot of local co-op (retail) games. Marvel was already mentioned. Any of the Dynasty Warrior-style games work too. I highly recommend Warriors Orochi if you're a fan of the series. Only other thing that comes to mind is Eternal Sonata, but that's just some guy jumping in for fights and shit. The combat isn't exactly deep either so meh.

If you look into XBLA, you can find a bunch of co-op games that are pretty awesome.

    Geometry Wars 2
    Alien Homonid
    Heavy Weapon
    Aegis Wing (free!)
Assault Heroes (never played the 2nd one)
    Worms
    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

    and a crapload more.

If you're looking for games to grind in: Too Human will probably fill that need. Previously mentioned Dynasty Warrior-style games lend themselves to grinding too.

I know that nobody plays it but Unreal Tournament 3 is pretty good if you're into FPS and it has local split-screen co-op and you can even have a guest sign-in and go online together. I also want friends to play with online...

You wouldn't be going wrong with ANY of those games. They're all top notch, albeit in very different ways. were I to suggest a priority order, I'd say Splinter Cell --> Fable --> Jade Empire --> Ninja Gaiden. Seriously, Chaos Theory is not just the best game of its genre, it's one of the best damn games on the system, period.

Also worth eying up when it comes to Xbox Originals: Pirates and Psychonauts.

Keep in mind, in some cases you can get used copies of these games, hard copies, for cheaper than the download cost.

As far as I'm aware, the downloads are really just a disc image. Both the downloads and physical discs rely on the same emulation, therefore any issue with the discs will also appear on the downloads, and vice versa. Your experience should be identical either way.
