Mac as external HD?

Thanks in advance,
I seem to remember reading that you could use a Mac like an external HDD, and transfer files from another computer via USB.

Questions: How is it done, and will it work between a Mac and PC?

Press T as it starts up and it just acts like a firewire drive.

Now it probably works with a Windows pc too, but I think it has to be via firewire.

Yep, has to be FireWire, and hold the T key down while booting up the Mac.

Keep in mind that Windows can't read HFS disks on it's own. Unless you're wanting to get something off a FAT32 or NTFS partition on your mac, you'll need something like HFSExplorer.
