[Solved] Synergy client thinks its connected

I'm having an issue with Synergy where the client thinks it is connected to the server (even if the server is not running, etc). Trying to have it connect with an alias doesn't work, and the problem persists past a reboot.

I can't seem to find anything on this out on the internet (though its possible my google-fu is weak), so if anyone has experienced similar issues, I'd appreciate the help.

Not to be snarky, but I want to be absolutely sure what you mean. The client is indeed reporting that it's connected to the server with the lil lightning bolt in the tray icon and all, or is it just letting the mouse pass off screen? Mine will do the second (and actually passes the mouse back to the other side, since I've got it set to go from right/left and left/right between the monitors both ways) even if nothing's connected.

Might also help to know your platform. I'm running between two Windows boxes...though from your avatar I guess it's safe to assume you're doing the same.

I found the problem actually, some odd thing with Vista.

    Thanks anyway!

Mind posting what the problem was in case I try to run it in Vista someday?

Sure: I had server set up to autostart as the computer starts, rather than when the user logs in (which was not too bright, in retrospect). It was starting fine, but wasn't using the correct screen.

I realize that sounds weird, but basically I got a message from Vista saying that "Vista cannot show a message," or something along those lines, and when I hit "Show me," the screen switched to what looked like a debug screen - just straight blue background, no icons or anything. In any case, it turned out that this was where Synergy had been running, I could move from that debug type screen to my laptop. The client was in fact connecting fine.

tl;dr: Set Synergy to start as user logs in.
