Friendly warning, folks: There's a new Xbox Live phishing scam making its way across Microsoft's service. The scam comes in the form of a message (shown below) that appears to be from someone on your friends list, which reads "M2AF everybody go to loginxbox.tk I just got 1600 MS points Hurry though!! I think it is a limited time offer."

Free points? Sounds fantastic, right? Too bad that when you actually go to the bogus site and enter your Xbox Live login information, all it does is send the same message to everyone else on your friends list. So if you've already received (or eventually receive) this message, be a pal and tell whoever sent it to you to change their XBL password pronto, as it may be compromised for whatever nefarious deeds these scammers intend

So, you know, watch out for that.

    Good to know.
What would they get out of this, anyway?

I doubt they'd get anything, it's just to steal people's accounts to be an asshole.

Maybe if you had a credit card stored on your Live account, they could get ahold of the information?

Or they could download really shitty Live Arcade games on your account? :P

Man, it's a damn .tk address, everyone knows those domains are free and therefore fake no matter what site it purports to be.

Serious question: who the fuck will fall for this?

I mean, old people and the technologically impaired are one thing, but hasn't the typical Live user grown up through the age of the Nigerian 401K and all the other similar bullshit that's been going on the last 10-15 years?

I don't know, I hear an shit-ton of kids on Live when playing almost every game. I'm guessing those people may be apt to try and get some free points.

Most likely younger kids who play Halo 3. I don't mean to profile but really just foolish and casual people might just do it.

My brother once installed a virus detection tool because he got one of those fake Windows error message pop up ad things so apparently these types of scams can excite people and do work.
