The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
There was the pink Nintendogs edition and the gold Zelda edition, each with their own cool images. Now there's a DS that appears to be black with silvery outlines of Dialga and Palkia on it. Yes, Japan got it a while back, but it's now coming here according to a Gamestop ad. Apparently $129 will get you a bundle with a 22-minute Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DVD, a Grovyle poster, and a Pokemon t-shirt. Not bad for no game.
There's no date on this yet, but anyone interested in this had better keep their eyes peeled as the Nintendogs and Zelda bundles had print runs of approximately 47 each.
The biggest mystery here is: why Grovyle? Out of all 493 Pokemon, it seems like such a bizarre choice. Why not Ledyba, or Swinub, or Cradily? It seems so utterly random. I would've expected Palkia or Dialga.
Why Pokémon? Why now? DP came out months ago. Hell, maybe if it was related to that new edition which mineral escapes me, it would be acceptable. But just a random Dialga/Palkia thing?
That's weird.
Dang it. I'd rather have a Mega Man Blue or Proto Man Red.
Why not Kyogre Blue and Groudon Red, at least then it'd be on topic.
Because while I'm into pokemon, I'm not into pokemon. You know?
Now, if Capcom decided to work something out with Nintendo, seein' as how they're one of Nintendo's bigger/st third-party names and all that, and Nintendo released an old-school classic Mega Man edition of the DS, me and the other people who are into Mega Man would just be throwing our money to Capcom and Nintendo to get one.
Besides that, I've already got a black DS, I ain't shelling out for what amounts to a stencil and some cheap knick-knacks.
Nintendo seems to be starting up the hype machine on Pokemon again. They are hard at work on Pokemon 5, possibly for the DS or its successor. You can tell because they also just revealed the silhouettes for 5 new Pokemon. This is similar to previous gens, like how Bonsly, Weavile etc. were first released as silhouettes for generation 4.

Ooh I love these. I guessed Bonsly right when his mysterious silhouette was revealed (though it's pretty easy to tell it would be a Sudowoodo prevo). These are hard though. The orange one could be related to Wynaut maybe? Since they usually reveal pre-evo's (like Munchlax, Azurill, Mantyke) and evo's (like Weavile) to older Pokemon first, these have a good chance of being related to already existing Pokemon evolution lines.

But still, does anybody know why they chose to include a Grovyle poster? Is he like really popular among US audiences or something? (I know Ash had one for a long time on the anime, perhaps he took over Charizard's popularity among audiences?) It seems so weird to feature a second-stage started from last generation... Palkia and Dialga on the actual DS are obvious because they are D/P's mascots, but how does Grovyle fit into the equation?
That's the only image I've ever seen of those two that's even remotely neat looking. In my book, both fall in the "...what the fuck was the inspiration for this one, a carpentry accident?" category of Pokemon.

Because not a single one in your post is a real pokemon.

Uh..dude, Grovyle is #253. He's not a real Pokemon either.
I did look that up, mostly because the height of my Pokemon fandom was with R/B and the original anime series where 151 was the end all say all. And I'd never heard of this Grovyle character.

I'm sorry to say, but I can only guess the amount of people's disappointment when those silhouettes are revealed. Hopefully the next gen has more cool pokes that get people excited enough to vary up their parties so that everyone doesn't have a gangar or an allakhazam...

I said all the ones in his post. It all sounds like jibberjabber to me. They need more traditional-looking pokemon rather than these abstract ones they've been pushing out lately.

I have no idea what you just said and I am totally down with that.

I never asked for this!
It does cause cancer, however.
And epileptic seizures.
This edition may be hazardous to your health.
That's weird.

All the silhouettes look like electric/boxy-like Pokémon.
We really need a G/S remake already.

LIZ: Different.
VOICE-OVER: It's September 24th, I'm Liz Parker and five days ago I died. But then the really amazing thing happened. I came to life.
Kinda like the original silver DS, which is what I still use.
Oh my god palkia is a giant penis. How could I not spot that?
Oh shush you. P and D are the most awesome looking version mascots since Blastoise/Charizard/Pikachu.

Awe. He's flaccid in that picture!
Does he know the ability "Viagra"?
I might just grab this.
My old one still works, but eh.
Then I can trade pokemon...
with myself!
they look like alternate forms of rotom to me. they could be from platinum, platinum's big on alternate forms
he's cool lookin'. that's all.

Why? We already have that.
Ooooh. You meant outside Europe.
