Taking a break, and looking for surrogates

Preface
This isn't some sort of RMD-esque "nobody appreciates the herculean effort I'm putting in!" tantrum. What little work I did was well appreciated, and I realize these projects are hardly a solo effort, so please don't take it that way.

(tl,dr skip 5 paragraphs)

After having a few days to come down from the expo, I've come to the conclusion that I'll take '07 off.

Mind you, not off from PAX. Hell no, I'd never do that. It's just that this year I spent eight months plus planning roomshares, Supertrip and PAXsassins, and spent the entire expo worrying about logistics and planning. In short, it felt like I was at work, and I think that was the real thing that got in the way of the fun for me this year.

I feel that if I'm going to continue wanting to go to PAX, I need to take a year off of administration/planning, and just go to have fun.

Drink Bawls.
Get drunk with complete strangers.
Waste my money.
Play Hungry Hungry Hippos at 3:00 AM.
etc.

So I'm going to take a break from running every damned event I can get my grubby paws on, and concentrate for one year on enjoying myself for the weekend, responsibility-free. This is going to be very hard for me, as I'm the type who hates to see anything go wrong because of poor planning, and who will jump into any situation to try and fix it, whether it's his business or not. Nonetheless, I will succeed. I'm announcing this now, and so publicly, precisely because of my obsession with order and planning.

(tl,dr)
I need people to take over a couple of projects for the '07 season. This means PAXsassins and the Supertrip need planners and administrators. I won't be leaving you entirely in the lurch. I'll be providing advice, materials and artwork files as I have them, but this support will be minimal.

PAXsassins Admin needs:
Full 3-day availability
A BYOC registration badge.
A laptop & printer
A cell phone
Willingness to dedicate time and a little money to making this go off.

West Coast Supertrip Admin needs:
To live on the West Coast
To have a car that can make the trip
To have a cell phone
To have hosting for the site. (I will see to the transfer of the westcoastsupertrip.org domain)

Remember: In both of these cases, especially the latter, people will be depending on you to make PAX work, and you'd be fucking over their holiday if you fell asleep on the job or dropped out of contact for a few months. Don't Do That.

Okay, that's all.

Good luck trying to find a replacement for yourself.

It took me enough to organise my own car load of people. Heh, though I'm sure the usual guys that say "oh yeah we're going to go down with you this year" didn't expect me to just fill their positions with other people that I know won't back out every year like the others do.

Hopefully you find someone as dedicated as yourself, I simply don't want the extra work or stress on my holiday.

If there was any chance I could help admin the next PAXsassins game, I would, but I'm not sure if I could as of yet. I have all of the aforementioned minus the BYOC badge.

Well, I'd certainly give what help I could with it, advice, procedures, etc. Lemme know which part of it you is the one you think would give you the most trouble.

It's mostly money/free time restraints during the course of the year, since it's my first year of college, but I'll have all the free time available in all of August, so I'm going to attempt to set money aside to grab a BYOC pass when I can.

Another factor would be setting the site up. Would it be the same system as this year?

Well, I think we got everything worked out, but I'd have to break the idea to EMLprime, who developed everything site-related, and see if he's willing to work with someone else. I highly doubt he'll have any problem with it. If that's the case, it should be easy to get going for next year.

If you can't get a BYOC pass through pre-reg, there's ALWAYS a ton of no-shows and passes get sold off day-of.

I'd take PAXsassins if I was going to be there in '07. Alas, I am not.

I wouldn't touch WCST if you paid me. ;) Helped RMD in '04... not gonna do that again.

Thanks for doing all these things ctishman. I really enjoy PAXsassins. It's a good people meeter.

You're very welcome, it was lots of fun doing it, and I fully intend to be back to my adminning self in '08, if whoever takes it over is willing to give it back. ;) Actually, the WCST is the easier of the two projects, by far, as it ends before the expo itself begins.

Also, why aren't you going in '07? :(

My brother got engaged on the Saturday in the middle of PAX and informed me he would be getting married in exactly one year. Date is set for Aug 25, 2007. In Boston.

I'm now debating if it's worth it to red eye from Boston -> Seattle Saturday night to attend Sunday PAX. It seems ludicrous, but that's the way I roll.

    I totally agree.
If it were my brother I'd skip his wedding for PAX, but I only have a sister and we dont' get along well and we barely talk (which is probably why I haven't been hooked up with any of her friends) so that's prolly why I would skip her wedding...
