video conversion and editing

so I have some video from a samsung dvd camcorder that records videos in .ifo I need something that will convert the video and something that does some editing either before or after conversion. I'm looking to do this on the free

Are you sure it's not .VRO or something? I think .ifo just records stuff other than the video. Have you tried Windows Movie Maker yet?

It's the best source of information on the subject. The site may seem a little overwhelming at first, but keep digging, and you should find your answers. If you can't there's forums with lots of helpful people, but keep in mind that most common procedures have already been laid out in easy-to-follow guides.
