Am I missing the Ping Pong?

Seriously, is there no ping-pong going down at PAX? I figured after all the commentaries, challenges, and then the fantastic Paint the Line saga, that we would see some. I would guess that the logistics must be mind-boggling as to how to get that many people swinging paddles into a space in a safe and organized fashion, but then again this is PAX. I saw that there is nothing listed under the Tournament sticky, but I figured I would check anyways.

Ping pong takes up lots of space so I doubt theres room for it plus the tens of thousands of people that are going :P

As with any ping pong table there is always the danger that it turns into beer pong, tequila pong, vodka pong...etc.

Do you understand the definition of the word danger? You seem to be using it incorrectly. In its place I'd suggest "awesome probability".

First: Tequila Pong sounds rough. I couldn't see myself getting past a game and a half without hitting on the remaining cups then passing out on the lamp.

Second: Beer Pong would be boss. Beer Pong would be Boss Hog.

What's wrong (edit: ie, what's the danger?) with one small-ish room with a ping-pong table and 4 paddles? I know it's very last minute, but from what I saw last year there's quite a few of those smaller rooms, they had panels in some and consoles in others. Maybe there's an extra for Ping Pong? I don't think finding a ping pong table to use would be that hard either? Lemme know if I can help in any way to set that up, as that'd be awesome!

Please, Ping Pong Gods, we call upon You!

The line would be 3000 people long, that's what's wrong.

the pre-reg for this year has passed last years total attendance... (and I personally wouldnt be suprised if the # of people there gets close to 70,000..) im sure those rooms are better put to use on something that would service more people. Like more console rooms or something.

Theres a bar up the street on capitol hill that has a ping pong table if you are so inclined.

There is also a ping pong table just about everywhere, if you can't find one.

Hmmm.... If there's not enough room for a tournament, then do I smell an Omeganaut contest?

    Thanks for entertaining my question.

And for those of you hoping for tequila/beer pong... I hope you're just not experienced enough to know better. If not, I heard the Ford Clinic is a good time.

I would personally love to play regular ping pong. It's been years, but I loved to play at one time. I'm really not that great, but me and the guys at work used to take our breaks and play ping pong some 7 or 8 years ago now. I really miss it.

I just figured they would make it the last round of the Omegathon. That way no worries about space or lines and it still makes an appearance.

Wow, that's... that's a lot of f*ckin people! Okay, well, "bar up the street on capitol hill that has a ping pong table " ping pong anyone? Maybe a post-pax ping pong celebration + drinks!

If people want random ping pong in the middle of nowhere, there is a public and open table just off the street on the north side of Harrison between Westlake and Terry.

It's fixed into the cement like some great stone table of lore.

if they made it an announced round, maybe...but I don't think it would work very well as the final. You might say "everyone knows how to play ping pong", but the same could be said about Tetris and look how that went.

You're totally right. And as sad as Tetris was there's not much that looks more depressing than two people who've never played ping pong before.
